New to this online chat. Only just found out about it, but its great to know i am not alone. I suffer from PCOS and had IVF in Jan 2003 which failed! Had OHSS as a result of IVF and was very very poorly in hospital. It has taken until now for us to decide to go ahead with another cycle. First appointment 23rd February to start the planning for treatment, but very scared in case i hyperstimulate again. Has this happened to anyone else? I would like some reassurance that this won't happen again. My consultant has reassured me it won't but don't know anyone else this has happened to.
Hi Niki and welcome to the site. Sorry to read about your experience so far.
I'm sorry I can't help you with your question but if you post on the General forum I'm sure someone will be able to pass on some advice. I have found this website invaluable in terms of advice and support. They really are a great bunch!
I have PCOS as well and am worried of OHSS. Hopefully your RE will be able to monitor you more closely this time. I believe your RE will adjust your medication accordingly. It's always a gamble! I start my first IVF cycle on the 22nd! Scared to death!
I have PCOS too - coming up to my ER, hopefully next Monday (20th). I'm on my 3rd ICSI cycle, but the first 2 that I had made me pretty ill with OHSS. This time we've chosen to go to a different hospital, and they've adjusted my drugs. I'm still doing long hours at work, and although I'm slightly bloated and uncomfortable, I'm really feeling on top of things. At this point in my previous cycles I was off work and feeling sorry for myself lying on the sofa watching daytime tv! When I started this cycle I was scared and had that conversation with my doctor. He really listened, and has had me in for blood tests every other day to monitor me - they've adjusted my medication - I'm only taking 2/3 of what I did before, and I feel pretty much able to get on with life.
Just to help put your mind at ease I had suffered quite bad with OHSS too and was assured that they learn SO MUCH from how you reacted to the treatment and types of medication and levels of it that they take a totally different approach the second time, even if they use the same treatment & protocol it is reduced to much safer levels as they are very caustious.
It has also been said that those who overstimulate have a better success rate overall! some positive ideas to hold onto to help ease the suffering
GOOD LUCK!!
