Any (happy) slow beta/HCG stories?

Post by DebraP »

Hi, I don't want to jump the gun but my betas haven't doubed in 48hrs.

On Tuesday (ET+14) it was 84
Yesterday (ET + 16) 'only' 114.

We tested again as last year I had a ruptured ectopic at 7.5 weeks and this time have had sharp, stabbing pains off and off since ET. I was hoping to see a nice fat doubling of stats to put my mind at rest.

I've found chatroom comment elsewhere suggesting they need to double in 48-72hrs not necessarily 48hrs, and that assisted pregnancies can have slightly slower beta growth than natural.

Anyone have any positive stories for me?
thanks
Debra

Sorry - never knew my levels but I know some ladies on here didn't have doubling and went on to have healthy pregnancies / babies. I hope some of them see your message and help to reassure you.

Best of luck,

Hi Debra

My betas were 52 (day 13) and 81 (day 15). I didnt have any more blood tests, just had to wait for the scans. I did a Clearblue HPT on day 14 which was faint, but a strong positive on day 18. All was fine then from scans onward. I also had sharp stabbing pains due to my ovaries still been very enlarged. (I do remember one side also been worse). I hope all works out and your little one is just a slow starter like my Jenna.
Take care

Debra

My hospital did tests every 2 days for the 2 weeks leading up to the first scan. They said to me that the levels should double by 72 hours, not necessarily by 48 hours.

Try not to worry too much, God I know that sounds so stupid because you can't help but worry - I'll keep everything crossed that things continue well for you.

Debra

My hospital never checks for beta levels after a +ve, so I never new whether mine were doubling or not. I also remember having sharp pains, more on one side, that I was convinced it was a tube pregnancy, but it wasnt. Also beta levels should rise within 72hrs not 48hrs , so fingers crossed for you dear.

Hi Debra,

Can you get a scan done before 10th March to put your mind at rest sooner?

I have a history of an ectopic pregnancy so I know what a worry it is that it might happen again.

With this pregnancy I had a scan done at 5 and a half weeks just to check that it was in the right place. It's obviously too early to see a heartbeat or anything but you should be able to see a sac in the uterus so at least you know it's not ectopic again.

Best of luck,
Barny

Shhhh, I shouldn't be over here  but Debra I was going to pm you, I agree with Barny - ask for an early scan. This time, if I'm lucky enough to get the illusive bfp, my consultant promised to scan almost immediately to make sure its intrauterine and not Christopher Colombussing in my nefarious fallops.

Numbers - since I've been sticky-beaking around this site there have been roughly a gazillion ladies with bueno pregnancies and slow doubling - stay positive Inca Warrior!!!

Hi there

I also agree with Barny and Lola, that you should be having an early scan.
I too suffered a ruptured ectopic and understand how you are feeling.
I have an early pregnancy unit at my hospital and they scanned me at 5,6 and 7 weeks to check things were in order.
I feel that if you have an EPU near you, you should insist that you have a scan, especially if you are having pains.
I also want to say that I too have suffered pains in my side this time, and I have now put it down to nerves and past experience worries. It's not something you forget easily.
Thankfully, my embryo is in the right place and the pains have now stopped.
Good luck and hope things work out for you

Debra - let us know how you are doing mate?

Chellejaya - I too had pains with my current pregnancy and got myself into a right state worrying that it was ectopic again. As soon as I knew the embryo had found a comfy place in the womb then I was fine and had no more pains. I'm sure they were all psychological. I agee that Lola is a little bonkers but in a very funny way.

oh yes, Lola is bonkers is a VERY funny way....

My pains stopped a good few days ago and I feel.....nothing except for sore boobs. My clinic are totally laid back about my numbers. My 3rd beta was Monday and came back at 385 so:

ET+14 = 84
ET+16 = 114
ET+20 = 385

I think they're slow but the clinic said everyone is different, an extra thick endometrium can have an effect etc. etc. They're only worried and want me to call if I have more pain. They did say we can have an early scan if we want but we're trying to stay positive so we'll wait until 10th when I'll be 6wks5days. That's soon enough for us. I feel OK about it.

Thanks for all your support.
Debra.

Hi D

glad your beta are increasing well. Check it out on www.betabase.info you'll see the range of levels and doubling times is immense, and each pregnancy is different so you can't even compare between your pregnancies.

Why don't you just go and have an early scan, and then have the heartbeat scan at the 6.5 weeks date as well???? It's only an accessibility issue that rations scans, not science. Don't wait another 10 days for peace of mind dearest. I had scans weekly from 5 weeks this time right up to last week  once I had kicked all the meds. It has helped me stay sane. I don't care what anyone thought of me at the gynae clinic..oh its you again Frau Taylor... YUP me and sweetie just comin right on in for another peek!

I am now having fortnightly scans and am buying a doppler..paranoid moi??? too b***y right!!! 8)

big hugs D

Hi Debra,

Good news about your beta HCG. I suppose all you can do now is rest up and stay positive. Best of luck for the scan on the 10th.

Nice one on the numbers La 'Bra. Makes you sound like a NYPD cop, hey! La Bra! Get over heeya! Donuts!
Anyhoo, excellent news!

I know I am a complete interloper bit I love it over on this side o the forum! Feels very grown up and tipsy-after-your-first-ever-cider, y'know?
Am hoping to be infected with some pregnancy-making vibe so I have legit passport to spread my rug on its green swollen hills.
Until then, up duffers, may your gravid months be filled with happiness confetti and anti varicose candy.
