irregular periods

Hi Amanda

I'm an old timer on this site having been through various treatments, but have similar periods to you. My GP initially put me on Clomid which encourages ovulation. I did three runs - had two perfectly timed cycles of 30, but the last one was 60, so don't know what happened there! I later went to a specialist and they discovered I had polycystic ovaries, which causes the irregularity.

Don't remember any side effects, except feeling some very definite ovulation going on - not painful, but a bit annoying. When I did it a couple of years ago, you could only have a maximum of six months tries on it. If you do have PCO or PCOS, there's another drug called Metformin, which can also do the trick (it's usually used for diabetics).

Unfortunately, despite all this, we discovered it to be a male thing as well, so it got more complicated. So in your case, Clomid is well worth a try - anything to avoid the IVF business which should be a last resort only.

Good luck with it all.

Nicola x
