Buenos dias chiquitas! I disappeared for a few days due to an incredibily busy weekend but won't bore you with the details now. Some other time maybe

It’s fantastic to “see” these new “faces”, we love newbies joining us here. Welcome Nicci and Angela is great to hear from you.

Niccy – Your work must be quite demanding but rewarding, nursing is an amazing profession. It’s such a shame the importance of nursing is not reflected in the salaries (at least not when I used to live in the UK, I hope it’s much better now). You were part of the SUIT study, that must have given you a bit of insight, did you do both protocols with SUIT, IUI with and without clomid? You’re on your 2WW, isn’t it the pitts? I almost went mad during that time, thanks to this site I retained my sanity. I am sure you’ll find this site useful as there are tons of ladies who have been through several procedures over the years. Please always feel free to pop your head in and say “hi” whenver you feel like it, I realize it feels weird talking about something so personal and private to complete strangers but we all know what you’re going through, so we understand that feeling.

Angela – Hi Sweetie, of course we’ll have you here! So happy that you came over. I’ve read what you’ve been through and you poor thing! It’s okay to feel sorry for yourself now and then but you seem to be a trouper so I’m sure it won’t last. Your ordeal (unblocking tubes) sounds about as invasive as an IVF procedure, I hope your cramps are going down now (btw, I’ve heard that cramping is perfectly normal after your procedure). Just to answer your original question re: baths v showers. I was told it is better to shower for the first few days than sit in a bath, I wasn’t told to stay away from any particular foods but I kind of lost my appetite for a few days. I spent most of my 2WW gossiping to these girls, so it really helped past the time, so please feel free to jump in with questions or comments of any nature.

Traci – At long last!! We were so worried. That’s EXCELLENT news! Well, your ovaries didn’t let you down which is great, they just needed a little more time. Sending you tons of PMA and buckets of babydust for your Wednesday scan.

Sml – Sweetie where are you and how are you??? Has my sparring partner lost all cyberspace contact. Looking forward to hearing how you’re doing and what you’ve been up to, hope everything’s going well.

Jan – Have you decided to get a head start on your husband with your vacation to the Dominican Republic? Where are you sweetie? Well, I’m happy to see that you have been busy recruiting wonderful newbies to the thread. Well done!

Well, I’d better go now I’ll write you all tomorrow....
Btw, I just had my second beta test (b/w) and I'm now at 11, 931...Hope I'm not going to give birth to a fully grown sasquatch (Big foot). ...I'm beginning to wonder. Ciao chicas

 Another night shift - boy am I tired!!! I really enjoy nursing but night shift seems to last forever - and I get obsessed about sleep :? - how much have I had - how long was I asleep - I need MUCH MUCH more sleep!!! are the usual thoughts that go through my head!!

The plus side when its quite is all the magazines I read about the celebs and their lives that are always more interesting than mine!!!

Starting to get sore boobs which is always a sure sign I'm going to start soon but I'm trying to remain positive!! :)

This seems a busy fortnight for appointments and treatments so good luck to everyone and keep us all posted.

I had the IUI without medication but the last one I had with clomid 50mg but no result. Have been taking clomid 75mg for the past couple of months, before that it was 50mg for 3 months. It certainly works as some months I feel my ovaries must be the size of melons cause I can feel them when I walk and bend over!!!! :!:

Must go now we are going to watch a friends wedding video. Someone is getting married at work and she is looking for inspiration!!!

Take Care Niccyx

Hi ladies,

Thank you for making me welcome on this thread. Well it's day 4 of the 2ww after 1st IUI. I keep thinking that I feel a bit different today, but then again that is probably because I am convising myself that this can work. I am trying to be really careful and making DH do all the lifting at work.

Did any of you see the pictures in the Mail today of embies. It was amazing to see them. Even DH interested.

Also read today that taking vitamin c can improve sperm count so if this one doesn't work DH will be overdosing on oranges before the next one.

Hope you are all well

Niccy and Angela – Just wanted to send you both tons of PMA, buckets of babydust and a little luck for your 2WW. Jan – It’s wonderful that you’re doing it again so soon, I like your PMA, your stroll on the beach of the Dominican Republic will be to ponder on your lives as future parents. EXCELLENT!!
sml - you mentioned the Immunological testing earlier, I keep forgetting to mention this, you’re right, this is something North American docs are very focused on. My doc mentioned this to me a few months ago when explaining why we should use Baby Asprin. I think he said that blood clots caused by an immunology disorder, would starve the uterus of oxygen, therefore preventing implantation or causing an early mis-carriage. So that’s why Baby Asprin was used to thin the blood. A full Immunological testing would test you on tons of other stuff so it would definitely seem worth doing.

Glad to see everyone is full steam ahead :)

The post above made me think of other things I’ve come by and not particularly shared with anyone. No way do I consider myself an expert and I have very limited experience with IVF, however, there are a few other things worth mentioning if it helps others to figure out what’s best for them.

Obviously I do feel lucky with a successful 1st attempt, however, I know luck played a small part in it. The truth is if I were in any other clinic my cycle would have been cxl prior to collection, as my E2 =15k on day 10 (usually 5k prompts a cxl, through fear of severe OHSS). Thanks to my doc, the cycle continued without me getting severe OHSS. Now I did a lot of research on treatments and clinics before asking for a referral to him and I found the difference between him and many others is his progressive methods seemed to yield statistically, more viable pregnancies and live births than others in all of his tmts, not just IVF. However, since then I have come to learn of other less noble factors behind his successful stats, like his unwillingness to take on the least favorable cases (In the waiting room for our 1st appointment, we watched a lady storm out of his office in tears and run out of the building, we were next to go in. He finished our conversation with “At least you came to me at the right time, not like the lady before you, expecting me to perform a miracle at the age of 41), I found that very harsh. However, he subsequently put us through a series of tests, which took in total 1 year to complete before starting IVF, which may have been part of his reasoning. Out of 4 women that were there together on EC day, 3 of us were back for our 2nd Beta blood work yesterday.

All of this is to say that I think it’s important whether you’re considering IUI, DIUI, IVF with ICSI or simply IVF, that you get as much information and statistics as possible to make an informed decision on what’s best for you.

Talk about celebrities girls, I just read this piece of gossip in the “Star” and couldn’t believe Brad Pitt would be so cruel. Apparently, he was talking on the phone to an old friend and Jennifer A’s name came up. Maddox then asked him “who is Jennifer”, he responded “She’s nobody” then later said, “she’s just someone I used to be friends with”. How outrageous!

Hey gals,

Just dropping by for a quick note, as dinner is on the stove and DH on the way home.

Looks like everyone is doing fine...I12b--OMG...are you having twins?? When could you possibly find out? Sorry, I'm not terribly educated on all the ins/outs of all the terminology...what exactly is your 'beta' level?

Niccy--god bless you for the work you do. I'm sure it must be very trying..I12b is right, you all don't get recognized nearly enough for the work you do. Take care and keep us up-to-date.

Angela--I know this 2ww is unbelievably difficult--tiring, emotional, etc. I agree...you will convince yourself that every little sign is one of pregnancy, but guess what?? It could be! So lots of PMA still coming to you girl!

Me, well, I'm still waiting on the LH kit to turn positive for IUI...weird. Seems to be late this month. Tomorrow is day 14 of my cycle and still no ov yet? Anyhow, will keep you posted.

So, here's my unbelievably blond moment of the day (or month--however you look at it). I've been posting that I'm 33 all the way along and even in my signature. Guess what? Yeah, I'm only 32...not 33 until April. It just hit me this morning...I'm not going to be 34, I'm going to be 33...honestly, sometimes, I scare me.

I12b--yep, I can believe that about Brad. I really am resigning from the Brad fan club. I'm behind Jen all the way..nice that she has Vince to dry her tears... :D One of the headlines at the store on the weekend was "Jennifer to try fertility treatments"...hmmm...wonder if that's so???

Talk to you all later.

I know how you feel Jan - its taken me over two weeks telling people I'm celebrating my 30th birthday but tonight another nurse said - "When was your birthday again?". Thats when it hit me - this is the 1st March and my birthday was 12th February - I REALLY am 30!!!! It only hurt for a minute!!!!

About your IUI Jan - for a few months before getting IUI I was monitoring my LH surge and it always come day 14 or 15 no worries :) . On my first treatment it didn't come until day 19 I was completely stressed out and phoning the nurses for support and getting blood tests to see if I had missed it!!! Each month varied from the longest being day 20 and the shortest being day 12. It really did stress me out big time. So what I'm trying to say is don't be like me just relax and pee pee pee and it will happen in its own time :) .

I still use these kits and still feel they can be open to misinturputation - is the line the colour/darkness it should be. Surely there could be an easier foolproof way like when you have to monitor blood sugar levels - a little prick on your finger, wait a few seconds and you have the results  . All very frustrating if you ask me!!!

I wont be writing for the next 3 nights cause I'm on days off. Will let you know the dreaded results on Saturday night of the dreaded 2ww but still trying to have lots of PMA!!

Speak to you all soon. Take care.

Good morning to you all

Nicky, good luck with the 2ww. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Jan, hope the waiting for IUI all goes well. We didn't have to do the LH testing as our hospital relied on ultrasound, probably because we are having treatment on the NHS.

Have you all got snow or like us it is lovely & sunny but cold.

Well better go back down to work. Speak to you all soon

Angela - hope you're surving the 2ww? I'm on the 1st day now so probably we'll be testing close to each other. Am trying to keep calm...
Niccy - keep up the PMA and keep us updated
jan - thanks for the good wishes. Hope you get your LH surge soon. Let us know!
I12b - love all your celebrity snippets! Am going to the UK on Friday so will catch up on all the gossip mags on my journey to Norfolk - unfortunately not much chance of celebrity spotting there
sml - thanks for the good wishes and am also hoping keeping my fingers crossed that you can cycle again in April. Look luck for next Fri.

Hope everyone else is fine? ET went ahead this morning as planned with 2 4-cell embies. Am really looking forward to my break in the UK as it will help the time to go quickly. Am especially looking forward to some fish and chips (always OD on them when I'm back :) ) and hoping to do lots of shopping. I do miss the shops there...

Lots of PMA to everyone!

Hi Eminde

We probably will be testing around the same time. I have been told not to test until Sat 11th which is actually a 3ww but AF would be due on 4th so should now by then

Sending lots of PMA and calm thoughts.

Traci – You said your next scan was Wed – I figured you meant today…What’s occurring? How are you doing???? And what’s your next move?

Eminde – Sweetie you had your EC today, now for the 2 weeks going on 2 months wait! When do you fly to England? You’re so lucky, with everything going on I’m feeling a little homesick now myself. I could KILL for some English fish and chips right now. Haven’t had that in years! Last time I had fish and chips was in Disney World, Florida and got TOTALLY ripped off! Paid US$23 for Cod and chips – and it was vile! Sending you lots of sticky babydust for these few days :)

Angela – You mentioned pictures of embies in the mail. Were they talking about ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology)? I’m glad to see it’s grabbing headlines. Has dh started his orange diet yet :) poor thing! will probably look like one by the end of the month but it’s all for a good cause! Our weather sounds a bit like yours, no snow but deceptively sunny (Wind chill factor is pretty bad). You mentioned going back to work don’t overdo it Sending you tons of PMA.

Niccy – Hope you’re having 3 great days off and sending you tons of sticky babydust for Saturday, let us know as soon as you can.

Sml – Have you run off with Orlando Bloom or something (better not have!), just wondering where you are sweetie and hoping everything’s going well for you.

Jan – Don’t worry about the “blond” moments, at work we call those “senior” moments and I have those all the time! All you ladies are so nice and young it’s just occurred to me that I’m the old girl of this group, my birthday is in less than 3 weeks and I’ll be 38, so I’m just hanging onto the 30’s by the tip of my nails! Gosh! how time files when you’re having fun. Re: Beta Level, (sorry sweetie I get carried away with the terminology and forget to explain) Beta hCG is what they call the “pregnancy” hormone because at the end of the 2WW the embryo’s cells produces this hormone, thus confirming pregnancy. At the early stage the number should be between 50 and 100 to confirm a positive pregnancy, following that the most important thing is the doubling of these numbers every 2 – 4 days (depending on the figures), as it then shows a viable pregnancy. Having said that a chemical pregnancy will also show a healthy rise, so hearing a heartbeat via U/S is the only conclusive method of confirmation. So I really won’t know what’s happening with me until my next U/S.

Re: Brad Pitt - As Chairman In Chief of his Universal Fan Club, I now declare him a total idiot! And refuse to watch his movies (unless he’s half naked, like in Thelma and Louise), until he gives poor old Jen an official apology. As a married woman I can not help but empathize with her plight and think his behaviour is uncalled for and just bloody naughty!
