Hi,

BFN yet again. Just called the nurse and she was very disappointed for me. She also felt that it was unusual for someone my age to not have fallen pg after 3 attempts - gee, that made me feel good (not!!!).

I feel really terrible, and DH & I feel like we don't know what to do next. I mean is this ever going to work for us? We went out and had a couple of drinks - made me feel worse (especially with AF pains!)

Bella - Wow! 6 embies is great. Make sure you get plenty of R&R before Monday.

Take care

MissMolly,

Have been thinking about you all day today. So very sorry to hear this outcome, a real bummer. Take time out to eat, drink and be merry (all the things that will be more difficult once you're pregnant). I'm sorry I don't remember, did you get frosties from this cycle???

Bella, well done on six, a great result, and of course they'll survive until monday and beyond!!!)

Take care all

Hey guys,
Me again. Just wanted to post that the nuchal scan went well..YAYAYAYAY!!!..Bubba is healthy and strong, lovely heartbeat (170bpm) and even did a (kind of) high five thingy!!..Risk of downs is very low (1:6296) so advised not to continue with invasive testing (amniocentesis etc). All official now, and due early September. Back for another scan in about six weeks time to determine morphology (whatever that means) and gender..but I have a pretty strong feeling that it's a girl!!!!
Take care all

Bel - That's great news!! I'm so pleased for you. Have you got any names shortlisted???

I had ET yesterday, and test next Friday, so am a little anxious. I ate sushi last night - should I not have done that?

Missmolly - I hope you're doing OK and getting through this awful time. Please let us know if you need a chat.

Hey guys,

Bella, congrats on your embie transfer, well done!!, now the dreaded two week wait..it aint much fun!!..And I reckon sushi the day after transfer is FINE!!. The early days of transfer / implantation are all about the embie bedding down in your endometrium and developing a link with mum, it's the period after that the rapid cell division occurs and you have to be careful about what you eat and drink. With this pregnancy I had a few glasses of (very nice) champagne in around that time and my obstetrician and my GP both assured me that this will not be a problem. So can't imagine that you've done any harm at all!!

Tiger, where are you up to with the horrid packing?? How is your mums visit going??

Chat soon

Hi

MissMolly - so sorry to hear your news, after EC etc went so well - from memory you have 4 (?) frozen embies? It is positive that you have made it to this stage, hopefully the drs are able to learn more from each cycle and give you whatever you need to maxise your chances if you have a FET.

Bella - fingers crossed for you, glad to hear the transfer went well - I don't think I would like to have the EC done without a general - I am a bit of a wuss - when I had mine done the aneathatist (sp!!) said she would put me under very lightly - I suggested that she should feel free to make it a heavy sedation rather than a light one...

Bel - great news re the nuchal fold - 12 weeks is such a milestone - now only another few weeks and you should be able to feel some movement - I can't believe how quickly it is going. Are you still feeling tired and queasy?

Tiger - when does the big move happen? Looks like you have picked a good time to move, as Europe has had such a shocking winter - this way you will be moving into spring - I went to the UK (many years ago) in May - the weather was perfect and everything was stunningly green - spring had sprung in the most beautiful way - we had a couple of days at Winchester, and it was so beautiful. But then, Japan is also meant to be stunning at this time of year.

We are keeping well - although I have forgotton how to read a calander and turned up at the maternal clinic a week early today . . . Tilly is growing well, just over 4 kg, she was just on 3 kg when she was born, and will be 5 weeks old this Thursday. We flew down to see Mum and Dad in Hobart last week and she was a dream on the plane going down - slept the whole way - and slept most of the way on the way home. she has settled into a bit more of a routine during the day, but still tends to sleep in shorter stretches during the night - she is not unhappy or demanding, just often awake!

take care

Hey Jo,

Lovely to hear from you. Also lovely to hear how well Tilly is going. Great that life is becoming a bit more predictable, I remember about the six week point thinking that things seemed to be turning around (thank goodness!). It's hard work looking after a newborn. Are you getting some breaks as well??? How is the feeding going? I found the Australian Breastfeeding Association website realy valuable, they have a forum that you can join and there is a page devoted to the "early days". I got lots of support and encouragement via this forum.

It is lovely to be through that 12 week hurdle and also through the nuchal fold scan, I get quite nervous about all this stuff. Apparently my placenta is posterior this time (last time it was anterior), means I should feel movement earlier than last time (though I was a bit of a gumby and didn't feel a thing until about 24 weeks!!!!!). Bring it on I say!!

Take care all

Hi everyone,

Sorry to have taken so long to post but life has been pretty hectic these past couple of weeks.

Our beautiful son James Joseph arrived (finally!) on Feb 25th: 3.9 kg and 52 cm long. I had a remarkably quick labour, about four hours all up - fast and furious!

The little fellow is doing well. DH is over the moon and has been wonderfully helpful and supportive, as have my folks. Bringing Jamie home last week was very exciting but I did find getting by on very little sleep quite a challenge. Things are settling down a bit now, b/feeding is finally beginning to be a bit less painful and I'm starting to feel more confident in what I'm doing now.

Bel, so glad to hear you're heading into the 2nd trimester - how exciting!

Josie, happy to know that Tilly has settled in well and that you're doing fine.

My very best wishes to everyone else also.

Cheers

Deanne,

A HUGE congratulations to you and DH on the arrival of young Jamie. What a big man too!!!..Annie was 4kg and I remember thinking how happy I was not to have pushed her out (I had a c-section)..you're very brave!!!

Th early days are exhausting aren't they!!..but it DOES get better, and breastfeeding DEFINATELY gets better as well.

Again, congrats. Thanks so much for sharing your news.

Deanne - CONGRATULATIONS - we have been thinking of you and it is wonderful to hear your news - what a big boy Jamie is - Tilly is only slightly bigger and she is 5 weeks old!

Feeding should get easier - apparently it is all in the attachment - I had no problems with my first two, but with Tilly seemed to have lost the plot and ended up going home with a 'grazed' nipple - felt like it had been through a cheese grater . . . but it did get better when one midwife spent some time with me getting the attachment right. I am really glad that I persevered.

Can't wait to hear more as you settle in at home with your beautiful baby!

Thanks for the good wishes Bel and Jo - it's reassuring to know that things do start to get a bit easier with time!

The little fellow's just starting to stir so I'd better dash and get the washing in while I can.

Bye for now,

Hi there ladies!
I hope you don't mind me joining your conversations. I found this message board by chance when searching for IVF info and I am also based in Sydney. I would be grateful to be able to share a little of what I am going through right now and to hear from others.

My 2ww ended prematurely yesterday when AF arrived. I was due to go in on Monday morning for my test. Needless to say hubbie and I are devastated and a little disillusioned about what to do next.

Although they were able to retrieve 10 eggs, of which 7 fertilised this came down to only 2 5-day blastocysts, which were both transferred (unsuccesfully), which means there were none to freeze. So to continue with IVF will mean going through the whole EC process again.

One thing I have been considering but don't know anyone personally who has done it, is the natural fertility approach. I would be curious to know if anyone has gone through the Jocelyn Centre in Sydney or any similar program and what their thoughts were...

Anyway, thanks for listening to my rambling thoughts.
