Hello im a newbie!

Hello Everyone,

My name is Sarah im 26 and my hubby Baz 28 are about to attempt our first attempt at IVF in April. We are going with a clinic about 2.5 hours away from us, its called the Cromwell fertility clinic at the Woodlands Hospital in Darlington (UK), our consultant is a very nice chap but there is soo much to take in. We are both feeling quite emotional at the moment and a bit lost with it all. We have said that we are going to have our eggs frozen incase our first attempt fails. It would be nice to make a few friends going through the same thing and to get a bit of advice now and then.
We both look forward to meeting some of you.

Hi Sarah, it IS totally overwhelming. Pretty much all the way through actually. The good news is that if you wander over to the General Forum (GF) you'll find others preparing for tmt in April - look for a thread called something like 'April Buddies' etc. Having a bunch of chat buddies to talk everything through with will make the world of difference, a trouble shared is a trouble halved etc. It also helps to have others with slightly different routines so that all the different terms get aired. Have a look at the Abbreviations thread (top of GF) which will give you a good overview of the jargon we use.

Best of luck and don't worry yet about freezing that all happens at the very, very end of tmt for some people and is reliant on quality, numbers, your clinic's protocol etc.

hi Sarah and welcome to the site.
As Debra says there are lots of lovely ladies here willing to share their experiences and support you through this rollercoaster. Just join a thread (or two) on the general forum. If you ask a question there is usually someone who can help.
Starting IVF tmt can be daunting. A lot of the ladies here recommend a book by Zita West called 'fertility and conception' You can get it through Amazon. It's really easy to read. It outlines IVF in terms that are easy to understand and explains the stages that you may go through. (I'm not on commission.....it's just a really good book!)

Thank you very much for my welcome and yes i've been struggling a bit with some of the words, however i took the advice and went to the general and looked at the abbreviations THANK YOU. I will also go look for the March/April buddies. I cant wait to get chatting ...so orf i jolly well go to the next section!

That's wonderful news, i wish you all the love and luck!.

This is our first attempt at IVF, i am undergoing all my tests, HEP,FSH,HIV ect at present with my own GP to cut costs down a wee bit, and we are to begin the meds in April (depending on my AF). I have blocked tubes and DH has slightly low count.

Hi Sarahface,
Good luck withyour forthcoming treatment. It is an emotional ride, very scarey but very exciting at the same time. I also have blocked tubes, and although that stops natural conception it has no negative effect on ivf ... so fingers crossed and good luck.

Welcome to the site. It sounds like we are in the same boat, me with blocked tubes and DH with low spermcount. We are trying route of IUI first as have had tubes unblocked. If no luck got IVF booked for May. Hope you get on well and I look forward to seeing you on the March April Buddies site.
