Well my results turned up - my FSH level is 12. I am really pleased with that as last time it was 23.7, the doc thinks that might of been a false testing because they've always been between 10 - 13. Lets hope so eh? They want me to test again end of March just to see.

I really thought it was going to be really high again, but it isn't so I can relax now. I know its not great but its good for me....

Great news Lucy!!!!! Image
They made you suffer for the news though..... Image

Jen - Hope you're having a great holidayImage , and not thinking of us or tmts at all Image
Nicki - Nice ticker! Image

Julie - Have a good rest Image

Lis - Thinking of you and DH Image

Hope all Phoenixes are feeling good and high on PMA Image

Started shots yesterday, been easy (second time round we're pros!). Image
PMA is lowish though and am feeling really nervous without knowing the reason. Stress at work is pretty bad, could be part of the reason. Image
Hope mood gets better (last time I fel so happy) and PMA higher. Image

2 failed IVFs - where to now?

Post by paulag »

Hi everyone!
I'm having a bit of a difficult time understanding my situation at the moment...and trying to get some perspective. The accumulative experience and knowledge of everyone on this list is so valuable...so here goes:

I've had 2 failded ivf attempts and went for my follow up consultation last night. My consultant thinks there may be an egg factor, as my embryos are grade 2/3 with some fragementation (although they are 8 cell). He even felt they wouldnt make it to 5 day blastocyst transfer. He felt this was a bit strange for my age (just turned 34) and therefore offered the potential thought that there might be an egg problem.

But the evidence is quite conflicting (and he kind of admitted it). I've had 2 pregancies before. The first was when I was 18 and I termintated at 11 weeks. No problems there, that baby was sticking. The second was ectopic, after only trying for 1 mnth. After that I developed endometriosis on 1 ovary and medium level endo in the womb area. My remaining tube was also found to be blocked. So the endo was removed and to date I dont have any symptoms...although there probably is some there due to all the estrogen I've been taking on ivf.
So how can I have defective eggs if I've been pregnant twice before? Surely the first pregnancy especially wouldnt have been possible. My consultant suggested things can change...but how can the genetic makeup of your eggs change? he couldnt even answer me. Every way we look for an explanation, some other evidence refutes it...so we're left feeling quite lost as to an explanation.

How do they know for sure if your eggs are defective? Can anyone share their similar stories, with perhaps some solid info? I've decided to change clinics just to see what happens, but I'm afraid they'll come to the same 'conclusion' in 2 attempts time. I trust my consultant and he's honest about what he doesnt know....but what he doesnt know is starting to frustrate the hell out of me!

Hi girlies how are you all?

Sorry its been a while but still trying to come to terms with things. Had appt. yesterday with consultant .... was awful. The lab results weren't back - they were supposed to tell us whether dh could have a second retreival on the day of EC and use donor as standby. Its unlikely this will happen as there's not much hope the lab tests will suggest dh has ever produced sperm therefore its more likely I need diui but the unit can't offer it as no availability of sperm due to anonymity being lifted. Have tried all of Scotland - the only place that said maybe is Glasgow but the nurse from Edinburgh said not to waste my money as they are using same donor pool therefore they won't be in a better positionthan mt own unit. I then asked if we could have ivf with donor but was told this is against unit "ethics" to do this without having done iui first so said they haven't made a decision yet.. So basically I don't know where I can have tmt or when and I'm busy trying to phone units in England that might take me on but what a hassle having to travel 100's of miles for each iui. The consultant actually suggested going abroad.... I mean has it got that bad?? I can't believe I'm hearing this, that I might not even get the chance to try and have a child.   They also said that if I had ivf with donor, by the time it comes to my EC that donor might have lalready fathered 10 children which is the max for each donor therefore would have to abandon tmt on the day!!

I'm going to do some phoning tomorow. I'm off to Newcastle with dh for the day and coming back Saturday. Hoping some retailtherapy willcheer me up.

Love to you all, Catch up Saturday.
