spotting in early pregnancy

Post by joanna »

Hi all

I am 8 weeks pregnant with twins,i had my 2nd scan yesterday and everything was fine.

However last night i started spotting brown blood just when i wipe myself after going to the loo, its the same colour as when you just finish your period.

As you can understand i was not taking any chances and signed myself off work till Monday.

I rang the clinic and they said it was old blood if it is brown and as long as not red and no cramping i should be fine and my babies were fine yesterday on the scan.

I am going to the doctors tomorrow anyway and have spent the day resting.
The ultrasound i had yesterday was internal so maybe it dislodged something and also this week my babies placentas are forming so also could be that i suppose??

Sorry to rant on but was really worried has anyone else had this??

Your advice will be appreciated.

Joanna,

From what I've read - people tend to spot right around the time they would ordinarily expect their period. So your first period would have been expected around 4 weeks and your next one around 8 weeks. Some women actually have full periods at these times. I'm almost exactly the same amount 'pregnant' as you and right at 8 weeks I had a teeny bit of spotting.

I say definitely rest easy knowing your babies are okay - especially if you were lucky enough to have seen them yesterday on the scan. I am very positive that your pregnancy is doing very well.

Joanna, I had same problem at 12.5 weeks ( last tuesday) Ob said it happanes sometimes and I shouldn't worry cuz that was OLD blood. I heard If it's miscarry then you will have lots of pain and constant bleeding. I think you shouldn't worry too much. Good luck!

Hi Jo

I know we all worry and when I was pregnant I went thru so much worry. I bled for 18 wks of my pregnancy and had really bad AF pains they said I was still having AF when I was pregnant which is bizarre. I mean sometimes it was brown but then I had clots and really thought I was losing my baby.

Well it all worked out for me because I have a little boy now who is 2 and he's my world.

Good Luck
