Hi,

I am afraid it is still a postcode lottery as to who funds what. In my area, liverpool we get 2 NHS goes, but the criteria is quite strict eg. neither partner having any other children, weight and age. The only thing you could do is ask your doctor, or ring the nearest clinic who takes NHS ivf patients and ask them about criteria, hope you get your answers. There may actually be someone on the board from your area who can give you more info. good luck

Hi

I also don't qualify to get IVF on NHS, whcih I think stinks because I can't concieve due to medical problems (tubes) so I thougth I would at least one go, but NO I don't. It is totally a postcode thing.

I hope your lucky with where you live and get a free go, if not 3 like some places..

Good Luck

Hi Bexie!
Not sure where abouts you are in w.Midlands, but I come under South Warwickshire Primary Care Trust. Here we can get one fresh cycle of IVF and 2 frozen cycles funded as long as you meet the criteria. I can't remember all the clauses but (I think!) no partner should have previous children, no sterilisation, 30-37(?) are main ones. when I went for my initial consulation (CRM @ Walsgrave) they gave me the forms - I signed, they sent off and eventually we got a letter to say yes. Took about 4 months though!
Good luck!

Hi there !

The free ivf is def. a postcode lottery. We were very lucky as we lived in Northern Ireland for a few years and we got 2 free goes and 1 semi - private ( £900 each) all unfortunatley neg. We did then have a cycle where I egg shared and this only cost £500.

I now live back in England and actually go to the Priory in B'ham and am going for our 5th attempt. We are lucky enough to be able to egg share again.

There is a great deal to think about when egg sharing and a lot of conditions to be accepted but if you can meet these and accept all the emotional extras of egg sharing it can be a cheaper option. I would strongly advise that you don't choose this option just to save money as we found out the lady I egg shared is pregnant and none of our attempts have worked - this really upset me at first but then we had to think to all the reasons why we did choose sharing and now I am really honoured that I have helped somebody else and wish them all so much happiness.

If you want any advice on egg sharing etc. please ask and I will help. It could be a magical gift for somebody else and a financial help for you. x
I have also found the priory to be excellent so far. We transfer in a couple of weeks - fingers crossed x

All the best Leanne x

Hi, We live in Nottingham and again I have blocked tubes, which I have had unblocked on the NHS. We still get 1 free go at IVF although I did have to lose 2 1/2 stone before I met the criteria. As I understood it from my consultant everyone is entitled to one free go within 12 months of going on the waiting list. The rules have recently changed and they have got some more funding now so it could be worth asking again.

Good Luck

Hey Bexie,

It really does depend on where you live. I live in Hampshire and our PCT came back with a resounding no as we were not an exceptional circumstance!? Whatever the hell that is. No criteria laid out at all so we had no option but private. After heariing some of the nightmares girls on here have had with the NHS I am pleased that we did go private. I had a Dr on call 24 hours a day to speak to in an emergency or could speak to one fo the 4 nurses during the day with any question no matter how trivial. Complete god send. Also i was able to dictate when i wanted appointments not when it suited them in 4 mths. So much more relaxing in such a atressful time. we were lucky and my parents loaned us £4000 of the costs. A great help. Our treatment was expensive but then we have had to have the whole kit and caboodle - male and female t/ment.

good luck with your application and future treatment.
