Low Rising HCG Levels

Post by HollyAnn »

Hi -

I am on my 3rd IVF cycle. The first 2 ended up with ectopic pregnancies. This time, the first HCG test was last Wednesday and it was 70. Needless to say we were very excited. The second test 48 hours later was 75. We waited another 48 hours and the levels were 104. Does anyone think this could result in a positive pregnancy? If it doesn't, I'm afraid I might be having another ectopic. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Holly. I've just been through something a little similar, but with stronger numbers.

ET + 14 = 84
ET + 16 = 114
ET + 20 = 385

I was worried about another ectopic too, although mine ruptured last year and the surgeon came to talk to me before I went to OT and promised she'd cauterise everything in sight and do all she could to stop another from happening. All I did was transfer my worries to different types of ectopics, not tubal - the internet is a wonderful thing but too much information is downright depressing and dangerous.

Each time I get new numbers I ask my clinic for an interpretation. What are your clinic saying? They must have an opinion? how many blood tests will they let you take before making a decision if it is viable or not?

I wish you all the luck in the world. Ectopics are singularly cruel.
hugs
Debra.

HCG levels

Post by HollyAnn »

Well, my doctor really hasn't told me how many more blood tests we will have to run before we know if the pregnancy is viable or not. I had another blood test this morning and I am just sitting here on pins and needles waiting to hear my results. I am scheduled for an u/s on 3/15/06. At that point, I should be 6 weeks.
When you gave me your numbers, I was a little unclear ~ what does ET stand for? Also, did you do in-vitro to get pregnant?

Yes I had ivf. ET stands for Egg Transfer, eg. the day they put the fertilised embryos back. My clinic don't do blastocycsts so mine was a 3 day transfer.

HCG levels that are not doubling

Debra,
Were those your numbers the time you had an ectopic or are those your numbers at present. I am very curious. When did your ectopic rupture? My numbers went up to from 104 to 141 yesterday (which is ET +17). What do you think?
