Hi Gals!

Nicki--not sure of the currency conversion, but I am paying $390 per IUI, plus the cost of donor sperm...that's running about $750 per unit (incl shipping, taxes, etc). So, all in all it's just over $1000 per try...very hurtful to the bank account!

Yes, we are using donor sperm...I am ordering from Xytex...a US company with Canadian service centre. There are tons of choices on their website, so we've been very lucky to have that option.

DH's sperm...well...it's very odd. He seems to have basically no sperm...the last test I think they found 1 or 2 in the whole lot. He had a biopsy several years ago when we first discovered there was something wrong...they noted that it seemed as though sperm were only getting to the very beginning stages of development, then were not maturing properly.

Our clinic has said that we could try TESA and see if they get any viable sperm through that process, but again, the cost is the hurdle for us. We were a bit naive in entering into the IUI world, though. In all honesty, we likely could have done the TESA and had IVF (if the sperm were viable) at least once by now for the same price...but again, we had stars in our eyes and thought, hey, with a few great swimmers, we'll be preggers in no time!

There's really no indication of what may have caused his problem--and the interesting thing is that he has 2 full brothers and one half-brother that all have several beautiful children each!

So, here we are, planning for try #5 and hoping we won't have to think about next steps!

Well, that's enough of a novel for now. Will touch base later...need to go check on dinner on the stove.

Take care....

Hi Jan - I get my donor sperm from Repromed in Ontario . Their list is really not that long. I think the cost is a little cheaper though.

I pay $150 on weekdays or $200/weekend for IUI.

My costs are about $700.00 total

Just thought I would post my experience as it may help you.

Take care,

Hi All
I am about to have my IUI on Thursday. I've just been for my final scan and only have one follicle. I'm really disappointed as I've been having Clomid. I'm really negative now and am convinced it's not going to work. I was aiming for at least two follies. Anyone out there had success with only one follie?
Thanks
Need some cheering up

Hello all
I have always read these post's yet I rarley post myself.. I guess I am writing to give support but also to get some positive reinforcement.. The short story is dx with PCOS 03/05 (I can't belive its been a year) tried Met alone tried clomid and now have moved onto injections with IUI.. this is our 3rd IUI (well actually they are doing a double so I guess this is our 3rd and 4th) I am nervous though since I feel as if this does not work we will most likely move to IVF... Do you ladies no any success rates with multiple IUI and or sucess rates with PCOS and IUI...
I also wanted to say how amazing I think you all are.. You post on here and are here for one another.. Thanks for any information...

Hi BecP and jackoa21

just wanted to send you both loads of PMA. I am on my first attempt at IUI, day 10 of 2ww. I had 2 folicules after meds (Gonal). What you need to remember is it only takes one egg and one sperm at the end of the day so keep thinking positively.

Hope it all goes well for you both.

Donor sperm is so differnet in US compared to UK. Everything is regulated here, and they dont recommend u get it from a web site.

We use donors regulated by Hfea. www.hfea.gov.uk Mine are currently from London.

Anglela, not long now for u honey. And u sound so positive xx Keep it up!

Jackoa, good Luck with ur IUI coming up xxx

Bec, all the best with IUI on thurs, is this the insemination?? xxx

Jan, Ur dh sounds the same as mine, no sperm!!! Im not sure on the exchange rate either, but guess it sounds about right, it's about 2.1 something, I think to the £ so roughly I guess $1000 is less than £1000,

Good luck all u IUIers.

And hello to Denise, who's given me hope to keep at IUI. how's the pregnancy going??

Love to ya all xxx

Hi Nicki...yep, it's really frustrating, isn't it? No sperm, and I mean, even if you could pinpoint a reason why, it might be easier to accept...but nothing.

Thanks for the info Pam. I tried Repromed, but DH is very particular...wants the same hair/eye color, blood type, etc. I couldn't find anything to his 'liking' on Repromed...but interesting to note that it's cheaper...! As far as clinic price, we're kinda stuck here as there is no other place close by...there is the clinic here in NB (Moncton) that we go to called Conceptia. They are relatively new on the scene as back about 8 yrs ago, we had to go to Halifax NS in order to get treatment (which at the time we decided not to pursue). From here, Halifax is about 7 hrs away....it would have been an absolute nightmare to try and pursue treatment with the clinic that far away. So, thankfully, we have the Moncton one which is about 1.5 hrs away from here...not so bad.

Angela: how you feeling honey? Only 4 more days to go before a BFP!! :D

And Denise, you've given me hope as well. I'm with Nicki...trying IUI again and hoping for the best. Hopefully will be going in for next tmt in about a week or so.

So, now I have a question for all you IUI girls using donor...what are your thoughts on telling people about the donor part? I mean, DH is adamant that we don't tell anyone...he's a very private person. Eventually we'll have to decide if we tell the child or not as well. What are everyone's thoughts on this? I know it's very private, but thought I'd take a chance and ask...

Wishing everyone a great week...talk soon,

Jan

Why not just tell people you're using reproductive therapy to help get pg and leave it at that? Its not really anyone's business, especially as it hurts your DH. We look at our reproductive problems as both of us, regardless where the problem lies.

Nicki, the pregnancy is going well, I posted links on the second tri thread if you want to peek at my babies. I'm just relieved that the morning sickness is finally easing off - there were moments where I honestly wanted to sleep or die, just to stop barfing.

Seems like craziness now that I feel good again - but holy moley, that part took me by surprise. When's your next IUI? Are you using meds this go through?

Jan, Honesty is the best policy!
Have you had counciling re: Donor?
If you haven't I would say go with dh, as it helps. We had these issues, earlier ;last year, and dh and i said we would pretend it was dh's child, not all kids look like there dad's, but after chatting with councilor we saw it so differently......

It about the child and the child's welfare, not anything else. That child needs to know where he's come from and whats happened with his parents when he was being concieved.
Just imagine yourself and parhaps thinking about your memories with your DAD, and then just imagine you now found out that he didnt concieve you, How would you feel?

So the advice we were given where thats right from an early age start talking about it in front of your child and then when the questions come be honest, but you must make sure that child is loved 200% always and forever, he/she wil respect you for it later in life
My dh was worried about the teenage yrs when you know what its like.... 'But your not my DAD!' But my dh lost his mum at 7 yrs when she died from blood clots, and a few yrs later his dad remarried, and in came step mum, he loves her dearly now but he tell me as a child and teenager, he often said to her....'You aint my mum!!!!!'
Just got to cross that when it happens.

But can u live with a huge secret like that till you die?

At the end of the day it your choice, but pls seek counciling it helped us.

I often worry about that issue but we have both said we will face that when it happens, have to get preggers first!!!

www.dcnetwork.org

Pls veiw this web site.......

Denise, will try iui again in June, no not using meds this time as doc said chances are will produce too many follies, and then have to cancell cycle, my clinic wont to it if you get more than 3 big follies, so thats sad but thats the way, I would love twins, but clinic's do not like that risk.....

Angela, Hang on in there honey, not long now!!!!
