Hello- I am just starting my first cycle of IVF with PGD-I am nervous about the outcome and am looking to hear from anyone who has any words of wisdom for me. I have a balanced translocation of chromosomes 8 & 13. I was unaware of this until my husband and I started to try and have a family. I've had 2 miscarriages-after the second one my Dr. started looking for a reason for the miscarriages and found the answer. Anyone out there done PGD?
I am glad to see that I am not alone. I have just begun the long process for PGD/IVF. We are waiting for the probe to be done and once that is done it is all a go. My husband and I have had four miscarages and finally have found out that I have a balanced translocation of chromosome 12 and 17.
Please keep me updated on how things are going and feel free to email me if you need to talk.
I'm starting my shots on March 17 and it will be my third IVF. My first was a succes but I delivered my son at 22 weeks and he passed away shortly after he was born. My second IVF was this pass Nov and it was a BFN, so we are on our third and hopefully final. I just have a question to ask, what is PGD never heard about it. I wish all the best for you.
Feel free to visit my son's website.

I am so sorry for you loss. I will say a prayer for you and hope that this time everything goes well.
To answer your question, PGD stands for Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis. It is a fairly new procedure and began just about 10 years in the UK. PGD can be used to detect embryoys that are carying genetic diseases such as CF (and others), as well as translocations of chromosomes. The procedure is done in coordination with IVF but before the embryo is implanted a genetic test is done to see if that embryo carry's that particular genetic disease or translocation. Only the embryo's that do not carry that particular gene or translocation are then implanted. Through my research I have also found that PGD is being used for gender choices.
