some advice please.........

Post by JULES K »

Hi girlies,

Could sanyone help me with some advice. I recently underwent my course ICSI treatment which unfortunately didn't work (found out at the beginning of this month so still quite down about it!) I am still debating whether to jump straight back in and go again as soon as possible (my clinic have said after 3 natural Afs) which for me will probably be around end of Sep or beginning of Oct or whether to wait till after Xmas as i don't think I could handle another negative result at Xmas time.

Anyway enough waffling, I have noticed on many of the threads that people have had several cycles of IVF or ICSI. Did anybody have any different treatment on their second go ie higher drugs dosage etc or do they only start changing things when you have had several failures ? I have mild PCOS and my dh has low sperm count and poor motility. I only produced 9 follicles of which only 6 were usable and only 2 fertilised which were transferred back so I don't have any frosties. 9 doesn't seem very many to me as I have read many threads were people have 20 follicles etc!

I have been very interested reading about blastocyst transfer and assisted hatching - do they only do this after several failures and are there age limits etc ?

I am 31 and undergoing private treatment (dh has 2 kids from previous marriage so don't qualify for NHS help) at the Liverpool Womens hospital (which incidentally didn't give us a great deal of information. I have learnt loadsjust from reading this message board!11

Sorry to go on and on , can any one answer any of my questions or is anyone going through something similar ?

Lots of love & luck to everyone currently undergoing treatment...

Julie.

PS I have started taking Pregnacare supplements which contain very similar ingredients to Marilyn Glenville Fertitlity Plus but are much cheaper!! to try and aid my chances. I have read that acupuncture can be very effective in aiding embryos to implant. Anyone had any experience of acupuncture throughout fertility treatment ?

Anyway I really am going now!!!1

Julie
xxx

Hi Julie

I am sorry to hear that you ICSI didn't work this time, I wish you lots of luck as and when you decide to do it again.

I had a failed ICSI last year, I am 32 and my partner also has 2 children from a previous marriage, he had a vasectomy 10 years ago and then had testicular cancer 5 years ago, hence why we are doing ICSI.

I am due to start my next treatment, start sniffing on Friday. I am now taking Marilyn Glenville Fertility plus, it may help it may not! but in my last treatment I did not take well to the drugs, I only had 5 eggs and only 2 was good enough to put back in, like you I had none to freeze.

This time they are uping my dosage to 350i.u which I believe is the maximum to better my chances of maybe more eggs. I was told I have a high FSH for someone of my age (this being 10), if all goes well I plan to have 3 emb's go back in this time, as this is our last chance, due to the expense. But I feel very positive this time and have a good feeling about it!!

Give yourself sometime for your body to get back to normal and give yourself a little break in order to feel strong, as it is very emotional.

Wishing you lots of luck, keep in touch

Take Care

Love

Marteen
xx
