7 year break from infertility tests-should i start again....

Post by mandyk »

After a very stressful 6 years of tests, various drugs etc-you know the score,my husband and i decided to give up on ever having children.
I had time on my side then,i was 26,now i am 32 and have started talking about it again just in case its our last chance before i am too old.I thought that i had put all the issues to bed but i think about it more again lately.Do you ever get over it?We was told that there was no apparent cause for the problem.Would it be best for us to start from the beginning for all the tests?Has anyone been in a similar situation?
I would like to hear from you if you have.
Hi Mandy

My thoughts are never give up, especially if you have unexplained infertility. Have you been through any cycles of IVF etc in the past, or just fertility drugs.

If it is still on your mind I would be inclined to go and see another specialist to get his/her thoughts.

You are not exactly over the hill now either are you?!

I have a specific problem with why I can't conceive as my tubes are useless, so IVF is the only path to follow in order for us to have the family we long for.

I would strongly recommend getting a second opinion.

You have come to the right place though, there will be lots of people on this site in the same predicament, so you have lots of advice coming your way!

Wishing you both the best of luck

D x
Me 34, DH, 37. Married for 11 years, ttc for 6+, failed 4 x fresh IVF tmts. 5th attempt at Lister Hospital gave us Megan on 5 April 2004 with a very straightforward pregnancy and labour. Attempt number 6 to start hopefully September 2007!

hi mandy,
I agree with dawn, if its on your mind I would go and see what help there is out there for you. Were you nhs or did you go privately before? Its worth getting another consultation from somewhere different.
I wish you all the best,
kathryn
x

Dear Mandy,
My philosophy on it all is to never give up.My husband and I decided after our third attempt that that was it.I did get very depressed about that,I then heard of the egg-share programme in which I donated my eggs and it was cheaper so we decided to give that a go,it failed, but I feel I am now on the bandwagon again and NEED to give it another go,which we are contemplating doing at the moment,I can't do the egg share again as the cut off age for this is 35 and I am now 35,so we have to pay the full amount. This will be our final final attempt.
What ever you decide I wish you the best of luck for the future.
Jane
xxx

Oh Mandy, do try again. In 7 years there have been improvements made with techniques and drugs, definately. At 32 you're still really young and if it wasnt something you really wanted you wouldnt have thought about it again !! Take hold of it with both hands and treat it like it's the first time you've tried, that's what I would do.

Time is still very much on your side. I wish you lots & lots of luck - go for it!!

Love from Jo. (35,6wks pg, broke but happy from second ICSI attempt) XXXX

Mandy

Definitely give it another go, like Jo said, in the last 7 years, there will have been improvements in techniques, and you may hopefully find the whole experience completely different this time round. If its something you've always wanted, its incredibly difficult to just abandon the whole thing, part of you will always wonder.

youll be broke financially for a while but when you think of what you may have at the end of it - and that's where the expense will really come in!! - its got to be worth it.

Perhaps you should try to see it as a brand new venture into the treatment, rather than focusing on your bad luck in the past. See it as a fresh start and go for it.

Loads of Luck

Love

Rachel

(28, 9 weeks pg with one baby, and again, like Jo, very skint but so what!!!)

xx
