As you can see I'm 10 weeks pregnant now. A bit of history: I did IVF - succeeded - had my 7 week ultrasound where I saw the heartbeat - everything seems normal.
Yesterday I had my first internal exam by my doctor. I had never been examined by this doctor before. He asked if anyone had ever said anything to me about my cervix. I thought he meant had anyone ever explained how it works - so I said - a little..? He said - well it's open a little bit - but don't worry lots of women are like that - it's totally normal.
Now I'm freaked out! Has anyone else had this experience? No doctor has ever said that my cervix was open a little. Wondering what to do???? This doctor was a general practitioner so I'm wondering if I should go and see my OB/GYN?
I did some searching on the internet and came up with the fact that I may have an incompetent cervix?
Hi can't offer any advice as not suffered from this but I just wanted to send you my best wishes and to say relax if you can. Why not phone the doctor to ask him some more so that you can put your mind at rest. Maybe some of the other girls on here will be able to help
Hi gregmbarry, That doesn't sound right. I want you to go have another check up with a ob/gyn IMMEDIATELY. It looks like it is leading you to incompetant cervix. This is the right time to have cerclage to your cervix. If it is not incompetant cervix, you are fine. But you should find out the reason. Good Luck
Well I was able to talk to my OB/GYN and he said it's too early for an incompetent cervix to be an issue as my uterus is still fairly small. But he recommends that I get an ultrasound anyways so that they can assess the cervix and see if it looks like it should. He seems to think that maybe my dr thought it was open but it actually wasn't. I'm going to go and see the OB next week and get him to do an exam. In the meantime I'm waiting to hear back from the ultrasound people to see when they can get me in.
Thanks for the good advice - I'll keep you all posted
Hi there,
I had this issue in my 24th week, when they told me to put my feet up immediately as apparently my cervix was 1/3rd open!!
I was on bedrest for about a month when at 28 weeks I was told that I could get back to normalcy as I was in the safe zone.
basically, the precautions to take would be not to squat or sit on the ground and strain yourself too much..
Like your Dr said, its to early for you to get a cerclage, but dont worry about it(easier said than done), if you do need one, they'll need to put a cerclage in your 12th week or so- your next internal exam should give you a better idea.
Put your feet up and take good care.
hugs,
smita
