First Time To IVF

Post by Danie454 »

Hello Everyone!

I have been reading through the forum and this is my first post. I started my Lupron shots last week. I was suppose to have my period today but it hasn't arrived yet. I hate to sound silly.. But could someone give me a run down on the lingo? BFP must mean a pregnancy test. Some of the other stuff isn't as understandable.

I have a couple questions if anyone has a second to answer.

My back ground..

I had a Tubal in 1995 after my son was born. ( I was 23) I was re- married and had it reversed in 1999.

We never got pregnant.. So this is our first shot at IVF. All my initial tests came back okay and the Dr is pretty hopefull since there is nothing wrong medically except some blocked plumbing.

My husband was told that with his sperm count he has to be- careful not to get the other women in the neighborhood pregnant in the drinking water.. haha :D

He has been doing my nightly injections withthe lupron and I was told as soon as I get my period to call the office to do a baseline ultrasound and bloodtest.

Then I start a Gonal - F medication 2x a day with the lupron as well.

I think I am okay with everything.. but just someone tell me.. Does the after retrevial injections hurt??

And they are going to implant 2 eggs.. what are the chances REALLY of ending up with twins...

I am going to keep everyone updated as this goes along. I have been given the date of 3-31 or 4-1 to do the retreval. Which would put the due date on my husbands birthday.. But trying not to get my hopes up..

Thank you to everyone who shares their experiance. Its really helping me understand a little better.

Hi Danielle - and welcome to this site! I just discovered it a week ago and it has helped me tremdously! To find out what all the abbreviations are - you can go to the abbreviations thread on the General Forum. You'll catch on pretty quickly. BFP means Big Fat Positive.

I am currently going thru my first IVF cycle as well, and I have been enjoying the words of wisdom from the ladies on the March/April buddies thread and the 30-40 group - both on the general forum. It sounds like you would fit in to both.

I started my Lupron injections on 2/24 and I start my stim. meds on 3/18. I cannot answer your questions about the retrieval, etc. since I am a newbie myself - but there are certainly women here who would love to answer your questions.

Good luck to you and I look forward to sharing our experiences with each other through this!

Hi Lisa & Danielle,

I am on my 2nd IVF cycle, 1st one 11 follies 5 eggs 5 fertilized 3 et on day 3 and the other 2 didn't make it, BFN 11-15-05. 2nd cycle Lupron started on 2-13, then af on 2-20 u/s & blood work. 2-23 started 3 Bravelle & 3 Repronex for 10 days then HCG shot and er on 3-6-06. 11 follies and 9 eggs and 6 fertilized. 3 day 5 embryos on 3-11-06. Progesterone test on 3-13-06 32.9 (anything over 16 is good). I take daily progesterone in oil shots in the morning and progesterone suppositories nightly until tomorrow, the BIG day. Blood work for the Beta HCG (Pregnancy test). The needle for the Progesterone looks more harmful then it is. I found that if I kinda numb the area with a cold pack 10 min before the injection and also warm the oil it doesn't hurt as much. I also put a heating pad at the injection site and rub the area to disperse the oil quicker.
If you have any other questions on the IVF procedure, feel free to ask, if I get a BFN at least I know I will be helping someone else out.

HI DANIELLE,
I THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE MY EXPERIENCE WITH YOU ALSO.
I HAD 2 CHILDREN FROM MY FIRST MARRIAGE THEN RE-MARRIED AGAIN AND HAD 1 MISCARRIAGE AND 2 ECTOPIC PREGS. WITH MY 2ND HUBBY I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO GO FOR IVF THEY SAID I HAVE NOTHING MEDICALLY ITS JUST THAT I HAVE NO TUBES BUT EVERYTHING ELSE LOOKED GOOD WITH ME AS FOR MY HUBBY JUST LIKE YOURS THEY SAID HIS SPERM WAS STRONG. SO WE WENT FOR OUR FIRST IVF IN NOV. AND I RESPONDED WELL WITH THE MEDS. I HAD 13 EGGS BUT 3 WERE A 7 WITH A 8 BEING BEST SO THEY PUT 2 7'S BACK AND I GOT A POSITIVE ON TESTING DAY BUT, MY LEVELS WEREN'T AS HIGH AS THEY SHOULD OF BEEN SO I WENT BACK 3 DAYS LATER AND MY LEVELS DROPPED TO NOTHING AND WAS NO LONGER PREGNANT. IT WAS A HUGE LET DOWN. BUT, THE RETREIVAL WASN'T PAINFUL FOR ME THE ONLY THING WAS THE MEDS MADE ME EXTREMELY MOODY AND I GOT USED TO THE SHOTS AFTER A FEW DAYS. THE PROGESTRONE SHOTS WERE THE MOST PAINFUL BEING SO THICK. BUT, GOODLUCK TO YOU AND KEEP US POSTED AS TO HOW YOU MAKE OUT. I DIDNT FIND THIS SITE UNTIL AFTER MY FIRST IVF SO I HAVE LEARNED ALOT READING THIS FOR MY 2ND ATTEMPT WITH IVF IN APRIL/MAY.
YOUR NOT TO FAR FROM ME HERE IN NEW JERSEY.
WHAT CLINIC ARE YOU GOING TO? LOTS OF LUCK!!! JESS
