First experience, a lot of questions

Post by ayadeen »

Hi,
I am new to the Forum. Both my husband and I were married before with children (I have 1 he has 2). He had vasectomy after his second child. He had failed vasectomy reversal in July this year and had to go through MESA. I started my IVF treatment few weeks ago. Doctor scheduled egg retrieval tomorrow. I am really nervous... More I read about IVF and ICSI more nervous I get. I have few questions, and will really appreciate if you can help me to get more clarity:
1. Progesterone and birth defects: I read about it in internet and nervous about birth defects because of it.
2. ICSI procedure and what chances we have to get good embryos.

Thank you all for support and I wish you all to have healthy and happy babies.

Hi, and welcome to the site.
You are probably better posting this on the general forum as not many people read this page, but the general forum is always busy, and there are a few threads from people currently at the same stage as you.
Dont worry about Egg retrieval, I had no pain at all.
I've not heard about the progesterone thing before, but both my babies are fine and I used it!
I think ICSI comes with a higher fertilisation rate than IVF, but as far as getting good embryos goes I think it all depends on the individual people involved, there is no definate answer.
Good luck, hope all goes well, and luck forward to seeing a BFP in 2 weeks

Egg retrieval complete-waiting for embryo transfer

Post by ayadeen »

Susie,
Thank you for your support. I had the egg retrieval yesterday. I didn't feel anything as I was sleeping. It was much easier than I anticipated. I have around 10 fertilized eggs. I will be calling the doctor on Monday to schedule the embryo transfer. Did you have any side effects from progesterone: eg bloating, mood swings etc? If yes, how did you manage it? Thank you again, Aya
