Hello everyone - I just joined and am finding the amount of information astounding which is good because this is my 2nd IVF cycle and I've done more research this time. I find that there is too much information out there to digest and I have so many questions its not funny.
Anywyas I have read a couple of bulletins where people have been using HPT. I am just wondering what people's opinion of this is. I did not use them the first time but then again my F2 was so high that I barely did anything after my 1st IVF. So I what to know if people who have done it would recommend it of whether I should try to stick it out. If I do a HPT when do people think is the best timing (ie earliest a positive would be a positive?)
Since this time I am not as sick as last time I am finding the time harder to pass. I constantly am thinking about it and wondering what the little pangs cramps or feelings are and whether its good or bad.
I guess I'm really looking for any advice at all. My doctor only does the first blood test 16 days after transfer which seems like an eternity away.
I know from superovulation cycles and the last IVF that if I can make it past 2 weeks after my HCG injection that that will be a first (5 days before transfer so day 8 today) and so I believe my first hope is to make it to day 8 after transfer which I will take as a positive sign. I have fingers toes and everything else crossed
HI I WANTED TO SAY THAT I DID THE SAME AFTER MY FIRST IVF ATTEMPT I TOOK HPT ABOUT 5 DAYS AFTER TRANSFER JUST TO SEE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN AND IT WAS POSITIVE RIGHT AWAY THEN I THOUGHT MAYBE THE MEDICATION FROM ALL THE SHOTS WERE MAKING A + BUT, IT WAS RIGHT BECAUSE I GOT A POSITIVE ON TEST DAY ALTHOUGH, MY + ONLY LASTED A FEW WEEKS AND MY LEVELS DROPPED AND WAS NO LONGER PREG. BUT, I WOULD TRY TO HOLD OFF ON THE HPT IF YOU CAN JUST INCASE ITS NOT ACCURATE BUT, GOOD LUCK I HOPE YOU GET A BFP! JESS
What I read online and heard from my doctor was that the hcg from the trigger shot is out of your system 14 days after you do that shot. So you should do a hpt prior to that date or you could get a false positive. I did a hpt 19 days after the trigger shot (14 days after transfer), which was 3 days prior to the blood test with the doctor. My hpt was +ive and was also +ive at the doctor.
I've heard that a lot of people get a -ive with the hpt and get bummed out, but then can still get a +ive with the blood test. So that's probably the big reason not to do a hpt early....because it only adds more suspense and can make you bummed when maybe you shouldn't be.
But, I gave in and did a hpt as many people do, so I understand that it's hard to wait!
Good luck!!

Oops, one important typo in my first paragraph. You should NOT do a hpt prior to the 14 days after the trigger shot because you might get a false positive since the hcg is still in your system. Sorry about that.

Thanks I see from other posts the hpt can be really a blessing and a curse so here I am one day before the 2 ww's after HCG shot - an anniversary I have never yet made it past in 3 superovulation cycles and one previous IVF.
I am worried as I have been having pangs and sharp pains. Also the tenderness in my breasts has stopped whereas 3 days ago they were sore and swollen. I am having a hard time recollecting my last time because I was really sick after the transfer in the 1st IVF. I'm really hoping that at least one of the transfers managed to attach itself (I had 3 transferred but they were only 2- 6 cell and 1 - 5 cell on the 3rd day transfer)
Thanks for the support - will breath a little easier if I make it past tomorrow

Not sure if its done in a lot of places. My clinic in vancouver Canada put me on injectibles (1 shot puregon a day) to create one or two mature follicles then an HCG trigger. I am PCOS so don't ovulate on my own and clomid didn't work. There was no egg retrieval though - which made life easier the egg retreval is the hardest part of IVF. But it didn't work after 3 tries and my doc pushed us towards IVF.
Good luck with your cycle any idea when you are to begin?
