Success with steroids 4 immune probs after many -tives ?????

Post by donna99 »

Hi there girls & guys,

A little history: im 31 nearly, got mild endo....been ttc for 4.5 yrs now...

Had 2 iuis, 2 Fresh IVF cycles & 2 Frozen IVF cycles & 3 cancelled cycles due to OHSS and none thawing.

Also had one natural pregnancy resulting in an early miscarriage.

So I am going to be shortly starting my 5th IVF cycle (well actually including all the cancelled tmt cycles and iuis, this will be my 10th tmt cycle, cant believe it!).....

If the outcome of this cycle is also a -tive, i have already got an appointment to go to CARE in Nottingham for immune testing, also the NKC Test which your blood gets sent to Chicago for testing.

I really do feel like this is necessary, with having age on my side at the moment anyway, if there is something wrong i have time at the moment to sort it out - rather than waiting....My consultant keeps harping on about the fact that i have achieved one natural pregnancy so should achieve another! i feel that if i havent after 4.5 years worth of trying that i am doing the right thing, ie IVF/immune tests etc.

Today ive been to my GP for tests for your immune system which are available on the NHS (My other tmts are private)...tests such as autoimmune, Liver Function Tests, Full Bloods (Had before also), autogobin (spelling!), thryroid (TS & T4) etc etc....so obviously if any of these come back abnormal i will cancel the tmt i am due to start in a couple of weeks and sort out my immune prob first!

My consultant has tried to deter me from having these further tests done because she says that there is not enough evidence to show that if i do have a immune problem which is effecting implantation failure, steroids do not necessary help.......she said that steroids only really help in recurrent miscarriages....

Has anyone had lots of IVF failures due to their immune problem and then gone on to have a +tive due to taking steroids or some sort of tmt?

I would love to hear from anyone as i really am running out of steam!

Good Luck to each and everyone of you!

ps, Didnt really expect to be an IVF expert when i was little, but have found out that i am now one!

Speak soon,

Lol Donna xx

Hi
I don;t know of any success stories personally but I have found lots of info about this auto immune problem preventing pg go to term. There is a clinic in Chicago and Dr Beer has done much research on this. I do believe it! I wish you good luck and hope you live your dream! google Dr. Beer and you can find all the info.

will you be having a uterine biopsy to test for NKCs or just blood tests? biopsies are more accurate. i had one done at Liverpool Women's Hospital by Dr Siobhan Quenby. She is doing a research study so it's free. You need to get your consultant to refer you.

my results were normal so still don't know what my problem is.

best of luck to you.
9 failed attempts using thawed, surgically retrieved sperm.
2 year break and vasectomy reversal for dh.
Consultation for 10th attempt using fresh sperm - Nov 09.

Hi - don't know much about this but I would recommend you posting this question on 'pregnant after treatment' thread because I'm pretty sure that some people on there have had the NK tests and took steroids through first trimester - I might be wrong but it's worth a try.

Goodluck with it all,
