PGS (Pre Genetic Screening)

Post by Macca8 »

Hi all,

I watched the Family Man (Drama series on IVF) on BBC1 last Thursday and they were talking about doing PGS. This type of screening would be extremely beneficial to me. The clinic says my womb accepts embryos well but because of the early miscarriages, the likely problem is chromosonal disorders. They believe it's just about getting the right one but they don't offer this procedure.

Question - Has anyone had this done and found it to be beneficial and have you carried a child to term? Has anyone had this done in the UK?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks ladies,

Hi Lisa

I also watched that programme, thought it was very good. Anyway I wanted my clinic to PGS with me on my next cycle as I've had two early miscarriages, but my clinic refused to do it, they didn't think I had a problem, but how do they know unless they do it, they aren't physic...!

I am doing my next cycle in April, without PGS, but if I have another miscarriage I am going to demand it, afterall I am paying for this.

I wish you lots of luck with your tmt.

Hi Lucy,

It was a good programme. Dying to see what happens in next weeks episode. Hubby is downstairs watching re run of Chelsea V Man City... I'm keeping away because Chelsea won 2-0 and he's not a happy man.

You and I have had the exact same timings happen on our miscarriages. My clinic did admit it's highly likely to be chromosomal but they don't provide the tests. Care in Nottingham do so I am going to have a think before my next cycle in July. They normally don't like to do these tests if you don't make many embryos and I don't.

Officialy I have had 4 miscarriages in my life. 14 weeks ten years ago(blighted ovum), 5 weeks about 6 years ago and 8 weeks & 5 weeks from IVF last year, so I think there is definitely something up with me. It's not my partner because my first 2 miscarriages were with my 1st husband. I never even registered my 2nd miscarriage with my doctor because it was so short lived. It was just like a late period which is what I thought it was until I did a HPT.

What's weird is I have 5 sisters and 2 brothers and not one of them has had miscarriages happen and they produced 19 children between them.
Maybe it's just meant to be. Well it's my last try in July so fingers crossed.

Best of luck with your cycle in April. Really hope you get a BFP and it's a stayer.
