Hi Shez

I too am having treatment at St Marys and was also alarmed at the printed success rates (not that it sounds so successful!). I rang HFEA and these statistics are from 2002/2003 and, as it takes so long to gather the info and produce the figures, they are the most up to date.

I was told by HFEA that it is difficult to compare figures purely on the success statistics. In a lot of cases some clinics only take "easy patients" and others take more "difficult fertility issues". St Marys are one who takes more difficult patients and that apparently makes them "specialised" and therefore their success rates are lower overall.

Also, these are "live birth rates". They successful pregnancy levels will be higher.

Hope this helps. You could always give them a call. It didn't put my mind at rest and I have no other choice but to go there but I think I understand the bigger picture. (I have met lots of patients form St Mary's who have been successful, and some unsuccessful, and they are happy with the care they received).

Anyone out there who isn't happy, I don't wanna know!! ha ha

Good luck!!
Julie

Hi Julie

We are going to have IVF around May on the NHS and have been told we will have the choice of Care or Nurture at Nottingham. Our fertility nurse told me to ignore the HEFA results as they were from 2002/2003 and both units are getting better results from then. I emailed both units to see if we could get upto date figures but they only gave me the same ones. What you have to think is that the drugs and techniques are continually improving so I am sure that the present results are alot better than this. It could be worth phoning them and asking if they have any more recent results.

Hope this helps
Angela

Hi Shez,

I wouldn't worry about those statistics. They are too old and everyone is an individual and will react different each cycle. I have done 3 at MFS and although I became pregnant twice, still no live birth rate from me but another time might/should be different.

My friend did 1 private cycle at MFS while waiting for her NHS turn. MFS put 2 embryos in and nothing took. She went to St Marys with her 1 frozen embryo and now she has a gorgeous 4 year old boy. It's such a lottery.

Good luck with your treatment.
