I wanted to ask how long it can take for a miscarriage to happen. I had confirmed at week 6 post ET that I have a blighted ovum. I would like for the m/c to happen naturally if possible, but have had no sign at 8 weeks post ET, having stopped progesterone two weeks ago. I have cancelled an evacuation proceedure I had booked because I understand it can cause subtle damage, but I would like to have some feel of how long this could take.
Any advice appreciated. It is complicated more because I suffered severe OHSS and am still trying to recover from this too - which the pregnancy isn't helping! I just want to recover from all this and start to put it behind me.

Hi Angela,
I am sorry to hear that you have a blighted ovum I have had 4 m/c and everyone of them took a different amount of time. With the first I had to have a D/C at 10 weeks because the m/c wouldn't happen on it's own. With the second I went to the emergency room at 8 weeks because I started bleeding heavily and was in a lot of pain. With the 3rd I had it naturally at 6 weeks and it was just like a period. The same thing happened with the 4th only at 5 weeks. They couldn't fined the heart beat with all 4. I suggest that you ask your doctor how long you need to wait until he can do a D/C. I may not be good for your body to have a non viable pregnancy go on for much longer. I hope this helps you. If you have other questions pleas write. Good luck!

Hi Angela
So sorry to hear of your loss, it's so cruel to get that positive and then have it all taken away. I had a blighted ovum at 6 week scan in early December and I decided to wait for it all to happen naturally (partly because I was scared of having a general anaesthetic).
My clinic expected me to mc within a couple of weeks but I had no sign so I went back end Jan for a scan. There was no sign of a sac and my lining was normal. That was it, no miscarriage as such, just a slightly longer period than normal after they gave me bc pills to bring it on. They said it just got absorbed as it was so early on and were not really concerned it could do any harm to me.
It was all a bit unreal really, I think maybe having a D&C as soon as the pregnancy was found to be non viable would have helped me move on quicker.
Not sure if that helped you at all but I would say keep in regular contact with your clinic if you don't see any signs as they will advise you what is best to do.
Love
Kat xx

I'm sorry to hear what your going through, I have had 2 m/c, 1st one was at 5 weeks, I m/c naturally. The 2nd time I went for a scan and there was no heartbeat, I had a D&C on 23rd Dec. I could not of m/c naturally, it was too painful Emotionally to go through.
It is so cruel to have this taken away, especially what we have to go through to get ourdream in the first place. My second m/c effected me real bad, I had scans, seen my baby's heart beat 4 times, then I went for another scan and nothing, my baby's heart had stopped.
I hope I never have to experience that ever again.
Take Care Hun

Thank you for your replies - they have helped me kept some sense of perspective, although I was sorry to learn about all your loses.
I've still going out of my mind, now that it is 9 weeks post ET. I haven't been in touch with the hosptial or clinic in a few weeks, and have been trying to get on with life while waiting for something to happen. I am worrying every now and then that I should get back in contact with them to see what is happening is okay, but emotionally I don't want to go back to the hospital really.
Ironically i have my follow on appointment at the clinic this week to discuss the next treatment, which seems odd as I haven't finished m/c this one yet. At least I might get some advice about what I should do though.
Thanks again for your support and very best wishes to you all,
Angela
