Nuchal scan tomorrow

Post by joanna »

Hi all

I am having my Nuchal scan tomorrow to check my twins are healthy and every thing is ok.

I'm a bit nervous and hope everything is ok,has any one on the site had a high risk scan and what was the outcome?

With twins i know i would face some difficult decisions but i am positive that everything will be fine,i cant wait till i can start buying things for them!!!

Take care all

Hi Joanna

Best of luck with your scan. You will be amazed at how baby like your twins are already, from my whole pregnancy i think the 12 week scan was one of the best, 19 week was ok but after that they get more and more hard to see. I had a Nuchal scan and it was fine, I think everyone does, we had a good result so the doctors told us not to even think of an Amnio.

Please post after your scan will be thinking of you and wishing you the best.

Hi Joanna,

My DH and I went for a Nuchal Scan at the Harris Birthright in London when I was 12 weeks with Twins also.

One of our babies was diagnosed with a high risk as it had a slightly higher Nucal fluid than the other and it also had Tricuspid Regurgitation. This Tricuspid flow is the latest thing they have detected in most Downs babies. We were then given a high risk and offered an Amnio which we refused due to the risk of miscarriage. This was so stressing for us that it was almost unbearable.

We had another Scan at 14 weeks with the condition getting worse. We were so stressed it was a nightmare. We then had another at 19 weeks and it was all perfectly normal - Now I have two healthy girls :)

I have heard of many many people being initially assessed as high risk and then it all turning out to be ok.

I am certain you will be ok, rather than scaring you what I am trying to say is that even if you are initially given a high risk (Which I am sure wont be) 99% of the time it turns out to be fine - So dont worry and enjoy your twin pregnancy :)

Hi Jo!

Just wanted to say good luck for today. I have my nuchal fold scan and blood test today also so we're "buddies!" Let us know how you get on, and I'll update when I can (although I won't get results until tomorrow evening apparently).

Hi

My risk started at 1:80 only due to my age, once they had taken all the measurements and everything both of them were adjusted (1:750 & 1:550). DH and I were not prepared to put the twins at risk for the amnio test. The scans that we have had since show that both are growing and developing nicely. they are certainly very active!
We heard the heart beat for the first time at the NF scan and I cried!

Also, they were very thorough - The measurements were taken and then redone and confirmed by a 2nd person. (Kings College Hospital, Harris Birthright Centre)

I wish you all the best for your scan.
Take care
Ange

Jo - how did you get on?
Wow that was the most amazing scan! Can't believe how much the cashew nut has developed! Was a bit of a bugger though as all nicely snuggled and didn't want to move for the measurements. I ended up coughing, walking, shaking and then dancing to get s/he to move!!!!
Early indications look good although official results will come with blood test results later tonight.

Hi all

Everything was fine,my background risk for my age was 1:183 for twin 1 and it came back as 1:849, the second twin background risk was 1:183 and came back as 1:888 so no evasive tests needed.

They said i had results that were typical of a 26 year old.

1 twin performed perfectly for the Nuchal scan but the other took 3 gos and i was tapped and poked but got a read in the end.

We are convinced that the well behaved baby is a girl and the naughty one that didnt perform is a boy!

Jo,
Fab news about your results. Isn't the scan amazing! They're little buggers though! You can almost see a personality already!
My results also came back great so no further test for me either.
Are you the same as me - no scan now till 20 weeks or do you get extra cause of the twins?

Great to see you do so well!

Hi Cla

Yes i am the same as you next scan will be 20 weeks.

Although i am a bit concerned as i have no appointment to see a midwife yet?

I went to see my GP at 8 weeks and he referred me to the hospital where the only appointment i have is for scan and ante natel on the 22nd May.

It seems a long time to wait to see anyone, especially being pregnant with twins and beong an older mum,i havnt even had my blood pressure checked!!

I am going to see my GP on Tuesday to check this is right??

In my blue maternity folder it says i should have an appoinment at 10 weeks with my midwife???

Have you had this problem?

I went to see my gp after my hospital "discharged" me which was 8 weeks. GP said to make a midwife app. for 2-3 weeks (so 10-11 weeks). When I called to make this app. she was fully booked, but did call me to make a home visit. I had this last week (v.boring actually! Mainly filling in forms!!!). Apparently my next app. will be with the consultant at my local hospital (not where I had treatment) at 16 weeks. Then the 20 week scan (I made this app. already and even though its end of May they were fully booked! i've had to make it for 1 June! Story of my life!)

So, although I haven't had anything vital at this stage from the midwife compared to you, I would talk to your gp about it. Apart from anything else it's good to know who'll be caring for you!

I'm confused already about what "should" be happening and what appointments are "normal"! Will order a pregnancy book I think (have been too superstitious to do so before now!!!)
