subtle cramping at 4 wks... uterus stretching?

Post by jen32 »

i have had some very subtle cramping and am 4 wks along, i have read that this is normal as the uterus is stretching. Why would it already be stretching when the baby is still so tiny?? Can anyone explain this to me? Sorry it is probably a stupid question...

Hi Jen,
The baby is tiny, but its still growing at a really fast pace and the placenta will also be forming so that it can take over from the yolk sac to supply nutrients to bubs..
hence the stretching to accomodate all the activity happening inside..
hope this helps..
hows the spotting?

hugs,
smita

Hi Jen

yes, the hormones cause it all. My gynae prescribed 300mg magnesium a day this is what you need anyway throughout your pregnancy for healthy muscles and it will stop the cramping. The Germans are very hot on this for menstrual cramps too, and it helps.

Thanks girls, that makes sense.
Smita, the spotting has quit for now (thank God as I was so worried). My doc had me increase my prog injections from 1ml to 1 1/2 ml per day just in case. I have another hcg tomorrow. Also, are over the counter prenatals really good enough? Mine doesn't even have Magnesium in it.

xx, Jen

Most prenatals won't have enough folic acid in them either...so make sure to check with your doc. I too was prescribed magnesium yesterday (I am also in Germany)...doc said I was full of gas and magnesium would help this as well. I am taking my prenatal vits, plus extra folic acid, magnesium and iodine (not sure what this is for).

I had cramping from about 4 days after transfer and I really thought AF was on the way...it is completely normal...mine have subsided but they come back every now and then...sort of comforting knowing something is going on down there!
