Four eggs fertilized

Post by Addison »

Hello ladies,

I posted this same message on the IVF board but I have noticed this board gets alot more traffic. So here goes:

I had my egg retrieval yesterday and they got 14 eggs!! I was so happy. However, they called today to tell me that only four had fertilized. My transfer is Friday and they don't do any updates until I am in their office waiting for the transfer.

Does anyone have any positive stories they can share with me. I know it only takes one but I am just worried that none will make it until Friday. This is my first IVF attempt so it is all so new to me.

Thanks a lot for any advice you can give a newbie like me! I look forward to chatting with you ladies again!

Addison, I don't think your numbers are uncommon. In fact, they probably are good, because many people that I know of only had a couple fertilize. I had 12 eggs and 8 fertilized. We transferred 3 of them (although they recommend only transferring 2). I am pregnant with twins now. It was my first IVF as well. I'd say if you had 4 fertilize you have a good chance of having a couple (if not all) of them that will be good for the transfer. Stay positive! I think you are in good shape. Especially given the fact that you had so many eggs and a good # fertilize! That's my opinion anyway. Good luck!!!

Hi Addison

We got 12 eggs and only 4 fertilised. I was so disappointed and convinced that I wasnt going to get to ET. On the day of ET (2 day transfer) I had 2 3 cell embryos put back. The other 2 embryos didnt continue to develop.
I now have a beautiful baby girl from one of those 3 cell embryos.
Wishing you all the best!

Hello Addison,
I have been asking people about egg collection.Could you please tell me was you out of it with the sedation.Did you know what was going on and it was just painfree. The thing is im worrying myself sick as i am due to start sniffing synarel soon next period, due couple of days.At the moment i have visions of them sedating me and going straight to sleep or being in twilight zone which would scare the hell out of me.I want to be in control as i would find this frightening if i was'nt.

Good luck Tina C

Thank you so much ladies for your replies!! I really appreciate your positive words of encouragement. What would I do with out you! I promise I will check back and let you know how things go tomorrow. I sure hope that I have good news for you!

Tina: I was not out of it at all. I was relaxed but did feel some pain. It was uncomfortable but not too bad. Best wishes to you; when is your retrieval?

Thanks,
Carli
