Hi everyone,
FET postponed this time round due to a polyps found on my endometrium as it was thickening during the week prior to ET. Has anyone encountered this? Am due to have it removed on the 24th April and want to know - why the polyps occurs, is it painful having it removed through a hysteroscopy and how long do you have to wait before trying FET again?
Can anyone help???

Hi LucyC,
Sorry to hear about your polyps...
I had a big one myself 2 years ago (it was actually blocking the entrance to my left fallopian tube) and had it removed with hysteroscopy. I underwent general anaesthesia (as it was an operational procedure) and when I woke up 15 mins later, I honestly did not feel any pain at all! I only had a few drops of blood on the same day, and that was it! We had not started ivf yet at the time.
It is a painless procedure and I repeated it 5 months ago, only this time it was a diagnostic hysteroscopy and was slightly sedated, but awake. Again I did not feel much, just some discomfort for a couple of minutes and that was it!
Actually I proceeded with ivf during the cycle following the one I had the 2nd hysteroscopy on, but as we didn't actually find anything wrong I am not sure if you have to wait a bit longer in case you do have a polyps removed.
In any case I wish you the best of luck, and don't worry... it's a painless and easy procedure!
I have just been diagnosed with a polyp too. But I wanted a second opinion, so went to a more experienced consultant, who said that there was definitely no polyp, but just thickened endometrium. She was so sure, she called my IVF doc to tell him so. So now I am going ahead with my IVF cycle (ICSI) rather than wait around and have a hysteroscopy and then wait some more to begin the IVF treatment. It might turn out to have been a bad decision, but I would seek a second opinion if I were you. Apparently these things are not so 'clear-cut', and I have read on other forums of people being told they had polyps and then finding nothing during the hysteroscopy. Its best to have more information.
Good luck!

Hi Lucy, I've had polyps too... it was suspected during ultrasound scan, and confirmed and removed during my laparoscopy (for endometriosis). I'm not sure why polyps develop, but just wanted to reassure you that the procedure is relatively painless.... I had some minor cramping immediately after the surgery, but it went away pretty quickly.
I have a friend in a similar situation as you. She's on her 2nd round of IVF. She started on her supression injections around the same period as her hysteroscopy (about 2 wks ago), and will be having her EC in a couple of weeks time. So, I think u shd not need to wait long for your FET. But this is of course best advised by your doctor.
All the best! *hugs*

Lucy I had polyps but mine were related to my last pregnancy....When I lost Connor I went through labor and the whole 9 yards accept that I couldn't pass the placenta all by myself so they had to do a DNC to get the placenta out and by my hysterocopy I have polyps that had developed which they took care of during the hysteroscopy.....

Hi Jessica,
Losing Connor must have been a dreadful time for you and DH,I can't even immagine!
I have recently read that a polyps can cause problems in pregnancy(such as miscarriages) or even stop you from getting pregnant in the first place, my consultant also agrees with this and that's why he stopped my treatment as I only have 5 embies left and am not planning on having anymore treatment if I don't become pregnant with these, unless we win the lottery and then all is well!
Hope your pregnancy will be a healthy and successful one, my prayers are with you!

Lucy it is true.....Polyps can be like fibroids so if you get pregnant they could end up letting go and cause some subchorionic bleeds - which can lead to miscarriage in some cases.....A healthy endometrium allows for implantation - if polyps are there or if you have endometritis (which is inflammation of the endometrium) it can cause implantation failure....I had both of these things and could not start treatment until they were resolved...I think it is easier to resolve the problems then it is to have a failed cycle....Thanks for the thoughts and prayers!!! Losing my son was devastating but now I have an angel baby watching over his brothers and sisters....
