HCG Levels

Post by LisaB75 »

Hello everyone. Still reeling from my BFP on 4/13 - seems like a dream!

I was hoping to get everyone's opinion on something.

I had 2 Grade 1 (excellent at my clinic) blastocycsts put back on 4/4. On 4/13 I tested positive with an HCG level of 109. Yesterday, 4/17, my HCG came back at 957. Clinic said this is great so I am not worried.

My question is - I am only 14 dpt today - do my levels seem high enough to indicate twins? I have another blood test tomorrow so I will find out more then.

I know from reading that you can't tell for sure until the u/s - but I just thought I would get your thoughts from what you have experienced so I might have some idea.

I would be thrilled to have twins but I am perfectly happy with just one as well!

Lisa,

The range of HCG levels is huge so there is no tell tale that says the difference between singletons or twins - Your best bet is to wait for your first scan!! It's really the only way!

Hi Lisa

Congratulations on your BFP :D

During my first few blood tests my hcg levels weren't very high at all and even at a later date they didn'y "go mad". At 6 weeks during an early scan I was told there was two sacs but only one heartbeat and yolk sac and an empty sac. At around 8 weeks I was told that I was blessed with twins. The empty sac was where it was too early to see anything and I was carrying alot of fluid.
My point is that, you are best waiting for your scan as hcg levels are weird and they don't really prove anything (apart from if they are doubling, it's a good sign)
I too felt the same and was happy to be finally pregnant with one baby, so I understand how you feel.
Hope everything works out perfectly for you.

Thank you everyone for the information. I really do appreciate it!

I know I will have to wait for my scan to know for sure. I can't believe I have to wait until May 11! (6 wks past ER is typical for 1st u/s at my clinic) It seems like most other women here get theirs a lot earlier. Oh well, my clinic has done right by me so far so I guess I just have to trust them.

Oh, believe me - I am loving every second of it! I thank God about 100 times a day for blessing me and I pray for him to keep my beanie(s) safe and healthy. I am all happiness right now. The only thing I stress about is who to tell. I have told the people who knew about the IVF - but we are going to wait until u/s confirmation before we tell everyone else. It's hard to keep it from people - especially the people I work with. I feel like shouting it from a mountaintop - lol!! :D

Lisa - Your HCG levels are showing a very viable pregnancy...no matter singleton or twins. I have seen HCG levels very low and go on to be twins and very high with singletons...really there is no way to tell except during the scan. My HCG were very high but I knew it was a singleton because we only had one transferred.

I am so happy you are enjoying the pregnany...it is very hard to keep it in...especially all that we have been through to get to this special time.
