Too much progestrone

Im 12w 1 day today and was looking for some advice, my clinic told me to stop the pesseries at 12 weeks, but is that when you hit 12ws or at the end of the 12th week? and should i stop cold turkey or wean off them? and can you have too much?

Charlie,

I would most defenitely get clarification from your clinic....The placenta takes over the production of progesterone between 10 and 12 weeks-but I think its best if they answer those questions for you!

Gosh, every clinic seems to do things so differently!
I have one IVF baby already (16 months now) and am 11wks 6days (very similar to you then) pregnant with No.2.
With the first one I had to take the progesterone for 4 weeks after ET; this time round (same clinic, but they revised their procedures) I only had to take them for 2 weeks after ET, so nowhere near as long as you did!
In fact, first time round the progesterone actually gave me quite a lot of grief, because it relaxed my muscles so much that I was in constant back pain, my tummy hurt, etc. Did not have any of those problems this time round (even though I was on exactly the same drug regimen). So, I feel it should be fine to just stop when they tell you to - do you actually have any tablets left? I just used them up and that was that. Am a bit surprised that the gave you more than you need, if that was the case?
Sorry, this probably doesn't hlep much, but I'd take 12 weeks to mean when you have finished 11 weeks and started your 12th week of pregnancy, because then you are 12 weeks?
Sorry, hope this is of some sort, but I'm starting to ramble.

Well I had the same dilemma. My clinic gave me an actual date when I could stop taking progesterone. It was when I was 10 weeks. I was very paranoid about quitting but I asked some friends who had been through it - one stayed on it until 12 weeks because her dr would rather she not stress about it - but on her next pregnancy she stopped at 10 weeks and everything was fine. I did quit at 10 weeks and everything is going well.

Good question! My IVF doc said to take them through week 14. I just counted how many I have left and my prescription takes me exactly through the end of week 14 (so just hitting week 15). I'll ask that question next week when I see my OBGYN for the first time.
