Receiving donor eggs - any views on CMV?

Post by BevT »

Hi everyone,

I am hoping that someone may be able to advise me on the question of CMV. I am waiting for treatment with donor eggs and in the UK the clinics are very particular about matching CMV negative recipients to CMV negative donors. Apparently this is to prevent any transfer of CMV from CMV positive donors to the recipient.

I am going to Kiev for my tmt and they don't seem to have any policy on this at all. In fact, they haven't even asked me whether I am positive or negative. When we had a consultation in Spain, (when we were looking around for a cllinic) the doctor there told me that they didn't bother matching CMV negs with CMV neg recipients. They felt there was no real evidence to support the need for this matching.

Does anyone out there have any thoughts on the subject or indeed any experience of this one?
