Is 16 weeks too early to be buying?

Post by charlie77 »

Hi all im now nearly 14 weeks and am planing to start buying at around 16 weeks, and was wondering if that is too early as i dont want to tempt fate but cant wait to stat looking at furniture for the nursery, or should i wait until 24 weeks when the pregnancy is viable?

Hi Charlie,
This is a very personal choice, some people start buying straight away others wait, the choice is entirely up to how you feel about it.
I wanted to start buying straight away but we both decided to wait until after we had the 20wk scan as we wanted to find out the sex, which did make buying that bit easier. It didn't stop me searching the net and picking out everything i liked though so when we did start shopping i knew what i liked and wanted.
Take care and good luck with whatever you decide.
Lotsa love

Michelle

It seems so long ago now, i thought it might be a boy coz everyone kept telling me "you're carrying all at the front so it's a boy" and i think it just stuck in my head but my dreams were telling me different, i kept on having these weird dreams at night and it was always a girl, so maybe my subconsious mind knew all along??

I went and looked at things already. I wanted to buy so bad, but I was told to wait around 20w also. I want to buy it all (lol). Also I would like to wait and see what I am having.

Hi thamks for all the advice girls.
We went and had a look around mothercare world today just to start to get an idear of what we my need and what we like, and we liked everything and i had to stop richard buying a push chair, but we had to buy something, so we bought a baby bath sponge and a wrist toy, which made us feel better, the only thing is, is that neither of us have much experiance with baby's and were quite taken back at all the things these store tell you you need, and how do you know what to get, as there are no manuals on what you need to raise a baby.
Anyway hope all your bumps are happy and healthy

Charlie,

there are a lot of people that will tell you that you will need a lot of stuff, but from what i have heard from my friends, some things some people use and others not at all.

There is a great book written in Australia called 'Baby Love' by Robin Barker. It lists a lot of different things you may need in the first year, and also has some reviews as to when/why you might need it, or if you don't need it at all.

I can't wait to start buying! I bought some cute ducks last year, and some muslin wraps.... I can't help myself!!!

We have just started buying these past couple of weeks and I am 25 weeks today. It was nice ordering all the nursery furniture yesterday :) We did buy some tiny things around week 20 but we decided to wait until week 24. Hubby just started doing the nursery this week

It really is a personal choice, we only left it this long because we have been out the country a lot. I am sure if we were both home earlier we would have started buying much sooner! Once we knew the sex then this helped a lot as we have twins and I felt this would make a major difference buying when knowing the sex!

Yes many people say you need so many things but it's amazing how many people give you things that they had for their kids - This part has been great and saved us a lot of money.

My hubby always insisted on having new swinging cribs, car seats etc for his girls but all the stuff we have been given is basically new because people say you buy so many new things but hardly ever use them - So it's just not worth it buying lots of new stuff too!

Enjoy buying - it's great fun :)
