Hi Becky
I have only been taking the metformin for a couple of weeks - so nothing to report at present! Although it really makes me feel very very nauseous - but I am persevering at present.
Are you taking it too? How are you getting on?
I did take it before - after my first IVF failed - sadly I never ovulated throughout the whole time I took it - but it did seem to help me lose weight - well I went on proper eating plan, took up more exercise, took the metformin and lost a great deal of weight. I think it helped to make the diet succesful - after all I had been on one or two before that without success!!!
I know of 2 women with PCOS who took it and got pregnant within 4 months!
Sadly with each cycle I have gained weight - and remain in a huge battle to shift it - my hope had always been that my PCOS would be "cured" by getting pregnant (as it can do) and that I would no longer struggle with my weight. But alas I don't suppose that is going to happen now - as we plan no further treatment - hence I am back on the metformin.
Best wishes to you.
Lorraine
xxxx
Married to my darling husband for almost 8 years - ttc for same.
Me - severe PCOS & Hubby - low sperm/poor morphology/antibodies.
Usual investigations/drug Tx then 3 IVF cycles - all negative.
Have chosen not to have any further Tx.
Hi Lorraine,
thanks for replying. I keep feeling extremely nauseous, to the point where i can't eat anything but toast - especially in the evening. At one crazy point i even took a pg test, i felt so sick in the mornings and when i made a tuna salad, i can't even touch tuna at the moment for some strange reason. Obviously it was negative which made me feel lousy !!
I seem to be losing weight but i also seem to bloat up for no reason, usually when i've got a night out planned and want to look good !!
We had a chat last night and have decided to have a FET later this year. Although we do have a 'freebie' full cycle, I can't bear the thought of all the weight gain and stress while we're living with the parents.
I keep reading about pg's through Metformin but keep talking myself out of it with the low count/motility etc. . but saying that, we did go for a private consultation earlier in the year and the sample they diagnosed came back with 99% motility and they said if it was that good on the day of tx that IUI could be an option !!
I know there's a lot of people who take Metformin & clomid, have you tried this ?
I wish you all the best for whatever the future brings.
Speak to you soon
Becky x
You name.....it I've tried it Becky!!
I had Clomid and then double dose Clomid for a total of 9 months and didn't ovulate once. Like you (read it on another thread) at best I have a period once a year. I've previously taken my temperature every day for 18 months and then peed on ovulation testing kits sticks daily for a further 6 months and never once ovulated!!! So not much chance of a "happy miracle" there then - and thats not even considering dh's lazy old sperm!!!!! In some ways thats helpful cos I never have to go through that "will it/won't it be this month" like so many women, and that helps to separate the whole sex and baby making thing - now it's just for fun!
The nausea is still a problem - it's apparently avoided by taking the tablets with your meal - I am now even taking it in the middle of it - so I line my stomach first and then get rid of the initial horrid effect by eating after it........but its not working! My appetite is also gone now - I have to force myself to eat something as I can't bear the thought of taking the tablet without food - I should imagine my doctor would think that was a success then!!!!!
Fingers crossed it will get better with time.
Have you tried Clomid? I know of several people who had IUI with induced ovulation with Clomid who got pregnant. Maybe it would be an option for you - especially considering the last count - top marks DH! It's nice to know there are options anyway - plus you have the FET to "look forward" to, at least that is much more gentle on you for now.
Take Care - probably see you again on the other thread later!
Lorraine
xxxx

Hi,
How are you, thanks for replying !
I had about 7 clomid cycles when i was married without any joy and husbands sperm was ok (he's got 2 kids since we split up).
But i would never have met Paul if it had worked, everything happens for a reason.
I know what you mean about the sex, at least it's for fun and no pressure from either one of us !!
I'll try and take my metformin when i eat to see if it makes a difference, although i'm not hungry except for toast (strange).
We've decided to have a go at FET and we've made an appointment for end of October so we'll see what they say.
We're still waiting for the new house to be released so we can reserve it, what a nightmare !!
take care and speak to you soon
Becky x
