Scared and Looking for Answers

Post by Myriah »

Hi Everyone,

I had IVF done for the first time on 3/31/06. Two perfect 3 day old embryos were transferred. On 4/12/06 my husband and were the happiest people in the world when we found out I was pregnant. My first HCG result was 68.4 (I think it was day 12). Two days later I had my second HCG test which was 250. I was so excited to see such a big jump in two days.

Then came a turn for the worst........

Yesterday (4/17/06) I started spotting. At first it was brown, then red, then gray, then brown again. This morning I went to see my doctor to get checked out. He said some bleeding is totally normal because I am on progesterone suppositories. When I got the results of today's HCG I was sad. It was 397. Since it had been 4 days since my last test it should have been 600-700. My doctor told be I needed to be re-tested in 2 days. He thought I was either miscarrying or I had possibly been pregnant with 2 babies and I was loosing one.

Has anyone ever had a scenario like mine turn out positive?

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Myriah,
Hello! I'm sorry to hear about your sudden turn of events. I have not personally been in your situation, but being a nurse I have seen things like this happen. In this situation I've seen the examples the doc has given you, either your miscarrying one, or both...or the lab possibly made a mistake. I've also seen cases where the HCG values don't follow the textbook when it comes to increasing. Please remain positive and I will be praying for you.

Hiya, I haven't been in your situation but wanted to wish you all the best and I will hope and pray that this is just simply a case of your not following the textbooks. Try to remain positive. I'll be thinking of you.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

I have not experienced any spotting since yesterday morning which has made me feel better. I am really looking forward to my HCG test tomorrow so that I can know which direction my pregnancy is heading.

Best of luck for test tomorrow. Image

My consultant told me that hCG levels are very "false". That she has known variose people with levels that are far from the norm and all was fine in the end.

Hi ya - Please dont worry as it wont help!!

I had similar to you as I spotted, I got real nervous and then it stopped after a day. When I did the test I was Positive, turned out to be twins :) The Dr. told me it was probably the embryo's embedding and its common with twins.

I shall pray that everything is ok for you

The rollercoaster continues........

I feel very fortunate today that my HCG did not go down. My new score is 690 which is about 58% higher then my score 2 days ago. I never knew IVF was going to be such a rollercoaster. I thought if I got a positive pregnancy test, it would be smooth sailing. Wow was I wrong.

Myriah,

That is OUTSTANDING news!! :D :D :D :D You know, I was trying to tell my husband that the "stress" doesn't end with a positive pregnancy test but he claims I'm "planning a stress calendar". :? Anyway, congratulations and may your process be smooth here on out!! Keep us posted on how you progress!

The Roller Coaster Stopped....

I just wanted to add a conclusion to my story. 10 days ago I went to the doctor with pain on my left side along with cramps and spotting. The doctor saw a yoke sac in my uterus which didn't appear to have a growing embryo. He ruled out an ectopic pregnancy and told me to prepare for a miscarriage.

The following week my HCG levels stopped increasing and I had another ultra sound to check on the yoke sac. The yoke sac was no where to be found. However the doctor then discovered that I had an ectopic pregnancy. I had emergency surgery last Friday to remove the pregnancy and stop the internal bleeding.

The reason I am writing this is to tell everyone to follow their instincts. I felt something was wrong. I kept telling the doctors and the nurses. They told me my symptoms were normal and to think positive. Being persistent may have saved my life.

Hi Myriah

I'm so sorry to hear your news. I'm glad that you're ok. The same thing happened to me on my first ivf cycle. It is so cruel, to go through ivf to get through the 2ww to get a positive and then to have it taken away in the worst circumstances. I thought I would never stop crying and i thought the almost physical pain I felt would never end, but it does. It just takes time.
How are you? Are you recovering from the operation?
If you want to talk then we're all here for you.

Lots of love
Lola

Myriah, I am sorry to hear your news. Thanks for sharing your experience with us and your exactly right about following your instincts. I also learned that valuable lesson with my cycle. I had OHSS and was told to drink lots of water and take some stool softners and I would feel better....yeah right. I ended up spending last night in the hospital and had 3.6 liters drained off of my abdomen! May you have a speedy recovery!

Love,
