Hi Ive been visiting this site for a while now and have finally plucked up the courage to log on.I am now undergoing IUI for the first time. I have been for a scan today and everything is going well so far! I have 2 big follicles growing. I am 29, 30 in Sept. and have been trying for a baby for 2 and a half years (not long compared to many I know but seems an eternity to me). I have always wanted children and never thought I would be 30 before I had them!
Is anyone else undergoing IUI or had it before with any advise? I know the success rate is not good but does anyone know anyone who it worked for first time? If this fails we are going straight on to IVF which will be funded on NHS. I take Mariln glenville vitamins and have been having accupuncture for over a year. It would be lovely to hear from somebody who know what I'm going through!
Hi Nadine, I had 3 IUIs last year - unfortunately they didn't work. I am on my first IVF cycle at the moment and can honestly say that doing the IUIs first has helped me enormously and I didn't find it very stressful at all - mainly because I knew what to expect and had done injections etc before.

Unfortunately I don't know anyone personally for whom IUI has worked (I only know 1 other person who has had it) - but there have been people on this message board with success stories.

Excellent that you have got 2 good size follicles - when do you go in for the insemination (sorry couldn't thinking of another word!!!).

Dolly
Me 38 / DH 40. TTC 8 yrs

hi nadine,
youre in the right place for finding someone who knows what youre going through! I dont know much about iui, weve only had ivf, but theres bound to be someone here who can help you. There are lots of girls who have acupuncture too and have found it works wonders!

you should say hi to the aug cycle buddies too, as they are going through tmt the same time as yourself and it really helps to have support of those going through it alongside you. You can compare notes!

everyone is lovely and soooo friendly, always watching out for each other. any questions, just ask!

all the best with your tmt nadine and Ill be watching out for you!
kathryn
x
Hi Nadine

I'm having iui at the moment, this is our 3rd attempt, the 1st cycle was abandoned due to having too many follies, the second attempt we got a negative, we had a month off and our now on our third go, we have finally got the go ahead today to have our hcg injection tonight( i think thats what its called, its the one to make you ovulate), i have 2 follies but they have been taking their time growing they're now at the right size so we've got to have our injection at midnight tonight and go in for the insemination on thursday.

Don't know how we're going to stay awake till midnight we're knackered with going to the hospital every morning to ck up on the follies but i'm sure we'll manage.

I know a girl from this site called Dianne she got a positive on her 3rd iui and i have heard on another site that somebody got a positve on their 1st go, i know the success rate isn't very good but we wanted to try this before going straight to the ivf, we get 5 go's at our hospital and then if its not worked we can go to ivf, we can probably go to ivf before then but we'll just have to wait and see.

I've probably not been much help but if you need anything give me a shout theres not many iui girls on here but all the others are there for you.

Keep me updated with how you're getting on
Good luck
Jackie
Hi Nadine and everyone.

I had 6 attempts at IUI, unfortunately unsuccessful. I was told that the success rate was about the same as with IVF and it is certainly less invasive. The only bad thing about my own experience is having now moved onto IVF (with ICSI) we find out that my husband's sperm count is too low for IVF without ICSI. That makes me wonder if IUI was ever going to be right for us and whether it was really a waste of time as the sperm count was never really discussed or questioned when we were undergoing IUI. My advice would be to ask questions of your consultant, and lots of them. There were loads of baby photos in the treatment room at the hospital I attended who only do IUI, so it must work for some. Good luck for you and all of us!!
Hugs - Wendy B

Thank you to all who replied, its so nice to hear from you all. All your comments are really helpful just knowing how many IuI cycles people have done helps me. You are right Dolly it is a nice tmt to start with, it will be a lot easier now if I do go for IVF (which is are next option). Wednesday I went for a scan and the follicles were ready so at 2.30pmI got a message to be at london 9am next morning. We live 4 hours away so we went up that night, what a rush!
Anyway so I am now inseminated! And on the same day as you Jackiey which is nice. We should find out are results on the same day. I have to test on 14th August. GOOD LUCK to you and to everyone else.

Hi Jackiey.
Yes it would be great to loseit together on the second week. I feel v calm at moment but I know what I will be like next week I just get so obsessive about going to loo and cheking!! I had hypnotherapy for this and it has helped a bit. Just a question what does AF stand for? I guessed it was a period but cant think what the letters stand for.
I really do hope its third time lucky for you.

Its so wonderful for all those who have got a positive result this month, wow it really does help you to stay positive and shows we will all get there in the end. Congratulations to you all.

Love Nadine xx

hello jackie,

(sorry to butt in on your thread nadine!)

sore boobs is a good sign so dont give up hope yet. All the medication and those delightful pessaries are to blame for alsorts of pains. Alot of the pg girls were adamant af was due and now theyre all on the other side!
I feel for you tomorrow with a new baby there, its so hard for us, I fell out with my best friend when she had her baby. I just couldnt cope, I was supporting her as it was only 3 weeks after meeting her man she fell pg. It was just as we were starting ivf and I felt she was totally oblivious to our problems. thankfully things are ok now although some days I cant predict if Im going to be ok or not. Some days I cant face her and her little baby, Im just soooooooo envious!
I try now to not be judgemental of pg women after all they too could have had fertility problems , and we all deserve the family we all so deaperately wish for. Its still hard though!

sorry for the essay,
all the best for the rest of the dreadful 2ww!

take care
kathryn
x
