Anybody using DHEA?

Post by sarad »

Has anybody tried DHEA? I have been researching it and the benefits sound fantastic.

I just had my first cycle which was cancelled on day 9 as there were only a few small follies seen at the scan. I was devastated, I had told myself that there was a chance that I wouldnt have anything to transfer, or get a BFN, but never considered that I wouldn't even make it to EPU!

I have booked an appointment with my GP on Monday to get a blood test for DHEA levels, and hopefully a script as it is a restricted substance in Australia (think it is freely available in US and other countries)

Just incase you havent read about the benefits, here is the site that gave me the most motivation (having just turned 38!) http://www.centerforhumanreprod.com/pre ... aries.html

When I consult Dr Google, there is so many benefits other than helping to increase egg yield/quality!

I should also mention that we need to do PGD as well so we HAVE to get a decent number of eggs, FS says he will probably cancel under 10!

I am starting another cycle soon, this time it is going to be a flare cycle, and hopefully I respond! I am going to ask for some blood tests in the first week or so to check E2 levels, so I can prepare myself if the levels dont sound great - does this sound reasonable?

Cheers

Sara, a friend (39) in Sydney has just started DHEA after I recommended it to her. I've not used it myself but asked her GP about it, he did some research and agreed to prescribe it to her. One word of warning, there's not that much know about it yet and many doctors will be wary of that. Also, it takes a good few months to start to have an effect on egg quality I believe.

Having said that, after only a month, my friend's FSH was the lowest it has ever been since being tested, coincidence?

good luck
Debra.

Hi Debra,
Thanks for the reply! I have read a lot about it on the essentialbaby board, and there are a few ladies taking it waiting to cycle, so no actual news as to whether it has helped.

Someone mentioned the name of a Dr. that loves the stuff so I am thinking of making an appointment to see him this week as he is not too far away from me in Brisbane.

I am probably jumping the gun since I have only had one cycle, and I may just need a higher dose of meds next time to get to EPU!

Thanks so much again for the info.
