This board is amaing.. I went away for one day and feel like I missed a thousand post's...

Heather..I am sorry that you had to stop for now and I wish you the best in the future..

Dania..When I started reading your post about the blood clot I was really worried.. I was glad to find out it was not a blood clot.. The OHSS is serious enough (but I have also read that could be a good sign for pregnancy) My DH is 31 and has 3 pulminary embilisims (spelling) over the last year so I know the whole hospital and heprin routine.. It must have been very scarry for you both..

Lucy..
Try to stay positive. You are right the you may be craving choclate and what not but that could also be a sign on pregnancy.. Stay positive and enjoy the chocolate....

I know I have missed a lot of ladies so to everyone else stay positive and just keep thinking "this will be the month"

For me I start my stims on Tuesday.. I a bit nervous. I did well with stims for IUI but of course that is just on ultrasound now they will find out what these little follies are really made of.. I use to think when we did IUI they said I had 8 follies (so 8 eggs) I did not understand that was not the case until recently.. Oh well.. Think positivly that is what I keep saying..

Hi everyone

just answering a few questions:

Carolyn, my hospital said there are 6 grades of embryos with grade one being the best. they grade them a bit like diamonds, they look for clarity, definition etc. if they are a bit murky or blobby round the edges rather than clear, sharply defined circles, the grade drops. However, i had all grade ones on past attempts and none implanted so i'm not bothered. the one little one in me now is a grade 3 and i don't care!

LauraLou - the extra cervical mucus is caused by the stims drugs and is completely normal and expected.

the pineapple juice (sorry can't remember who asked) contains selenium to help implantation like Carolyn said. brazil nuts also contain lots of this.

Well i am feeling very snappy and irritable and also a bit negative and i still have about 10 days to go! the 2ww is really tough but will be so worth it if this works. fingers crossed i get 6th time lucky. My dh and i have been through so much (not that others haven't) and feel we deserve some luck now.

Hope everyone is doing ok today. if anyone's got any tips for increasing my positivity i'd appreciate it!

thanks
Natalie

Hello ladies,
If anyone is available I am looking for some advice.. I am on Lupron (from last Tuesday) and from what I belive it was suppose to stop AF from coming.. Well she is here with full strength. Will this IVF be a wash or do they just do different meds? Any help would be great.. I will also call the doctor tomorrow but of course I will actually have to sleep tonight and wait for them to open..
Thanks ladies and please think good thoughts..

No, Lupron does not stop AF. It stops ovulation. I started Lupron on day 21 of my cycle and got AF on day 30. I then went in for a baseline scan and started Follistim the following Saturday.

Be sure to call your doctor tomorrow as you will probably need to schedule an ultrasound appointment soon.

Good luck!

HI just another whinge -

As if my weekend wasn't crappy enough, I got to work today and the guy in general xray called in sick, so I was TOLD (via the secretary - my boss didn't even have the decency to talk to my directly!) to do his list as well as my own fully booked CT list! I am exhausted! Then I got home and what has come in the mail? The specialist bill for this last IUI cycle. $1000 for nothing but a month of hell!

Sorry guys but I'm angry and frustrated and tired.

Well I'm back from yet another scan. I have 13 follies each about 10 mm and a bunch of smaller ones. My RE said he will give me a diluted trigger shot (hCG) from tomorrow till Sunday, which sounds a bit different. Has anyone else had this? He said it causes the larger follies to grow and the smaller ones to shrink.... Oh, and the polyp is still there so my chances don't look too great.

Carolyn, when you mentioned that you are taking vits and not DH, it reminded me of a news item I read recently about older males and their sperm quality. I have pasted part of it in below. We have severe MF and DH has been taking vitamins recently, and it (or something) really boosted his count (from 60,000 and 20% motlity up to 700,000 and 30% mot.) Its just a thought, but maybe your DH should start taking something too?

"A team of Canadian scientists have found damage to DNA in sperm increases with age.

By analysing the sperm of 2,134 men they found a wide variation in quality that was linked with age.

DNA damage was far higher in men over 45 than in younger men - men aged 45 had double the damage of those younger than 30.

He said data from the US showed that the birth rate for fathers older than 35 had increased by nearly 20% between 1980 and 1995.

Lead author Dr Sergey Moskotsev, of the Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, told the ESHRE conference: "The effect of age on male infertility is particularly interesting because of the growth in the number of men choosing to father children at older ages.

"The combination of increased female factor infertility, increased sperm DNA damage, low levels of DNA repair and increased abnormalities in conventional semen parameters will have a pronounced impact on their reproductive potential."

Dr Allan Pacey, Senior Lecturer in Andrology at the University of Sheffield and Secretary of the British Fertility Society, said: "This should remind us that the male reproductive system is not immune from the effects of ageing.

"Whilst the effects of aging are not as dramatic as are seen in women, subtle changes in DNA quality could seriously affect a couple's ability to conceive, or could lead to miscarriage or even health problems in any children born.

Sofia-never heard of a diluted trigger shot…sounds interesting. Good luck.

Xrayem-Poor you…what a nightmare. Sending a big HUG to you.

CYOT-wow only 3 days to go for you girl. You take it easy…good luck.

Natalie Anne-of course you are right…the grade is not the most important thing.
Wishing you best of luck, try and stay positive. PMA PMA PMA!!

jackoa21-all the best for your stimms. Hope it’s going ok.

Luby-hey girls you hang in there and stay positive. Nothing’s over until the blood test says so right? Good luck to you.

LucyBucy-poor your, what a complete nightmare. I know what it is like with the husband being away for month and month. Whenever you need a chat just let me know. Are you on the msn messenger?

Carolyn-I am not entirely sure about the Grades. This is the first time they actually told me the grade. But I guess I is very good, II good aso. But bare in mind that grade III, IV and V can still implant and be healthy babies. As for the day of transfer…I asked for a blastocyte transfer but they wouldn’t do it on the NHS. I think you have to go private for that. I don’t know about day 3 transfer…I always had day 2 transfer. Are you happy with Hammersmith? Are you going back for another cycle? Sending hugs to you and hubby.

Dania-only 2 days to go…my thoughts are with you. How are you feeling? Wishing you the best of luck.

Hello and big hugs to everyone i might have forgotten.

As for myself...woke up with a horrible rush on my neck and chest this morning, no idea whats causing it (maybe the antibiotics?). But its not itchy so will wait and see if it disappears over the next few days. Apart from that I am feeling ok, few aches and pains and feeling tired but fairly happy.

How is everyones weather? We´ve got a bit of a mix between sun and being cloudy today but very mild, so I will go and sort some things in the garden now.

Take care all and PMA PMA PMA!!!

I just came back from the doctor's. I have 9 mature follicles and a bunch of little ones, so we are doing the EC on Wednesday! I am so excited!!!!

If everything goes as planned, they will do the ET next Monday, a 5 day transfer. If I end up with only 2 good eggs, then they will do the ET on Saturday, a 3 day transfer.

Best wishes to everyone.

Hello Ladies,

sorry, no personals just a quck post to let you know how ET went today.

Out of my 4 embies, only 2 were suitable for transfer, both grade 2 (8 cell) so they are both now on board and hopefully making themselves at home. We're both a bit disappointed that there aren't any frosties, but we hope there won't be any need for them - fingers crossed!

I test on 30th May so I'd be very grateful if one of you lovely ladies would be kind enough to update the list with my test date whilst I return to relaxing from dictating this post to my DH - he is soooo good.

Love Wendy x

Hey girls!

Lucybucy- We are here for you whenever you need to talk- It won’t be easy when he’s away- I’m sure he’ll miss you just as much. When you need support let us know. Cheer up EC can feel exciting.

Carolyn-You do sound like you are doing a lot of research- there is power in knowledge!!! You might ask the difference btwn the suppositories and the injections- I’d like to know what your clinic thinks of it. I think the nutritionist is a great idea- the vitamins might help too- food we ingest has a big effect. Don’t blame yourself- you can’t take full responsibilty when you need to people to create a little angel. My friend’s cousin told me that at the beginning of our tmt- for her IVF worked on the second try and she had twin girls. She said it was worth the wait.

Lucy-It could just be your nerves or a sign of pregnancy- Hang in there and go ahead and enjoy your chocolat! You deserve the treat! Keeping fingers crossed for you!

Jackoa21-Wow that must have been quite difficult- 2 P.E. Thanks for the info I do hope it is a BFP. Good luck starting stimms tomorrow. Wishing you lots of Big follies!

Natalie- You’re right you do deserve good luck after all the sacrifices you have made. Its OK to feel what you are feeling- its not an easy ride.Try to do something fun just for you. It may help you feel better. Funny movies usually work well for me. Thanks for the embryo info- they didn’t tell us that at our clinic and I didn’t even think of asking. All they told us is that on a three day transfer they were looking for 8 cells and 6 cells. Its unbelieable how intricately detailed it is.

Cyot- only 4 days to go- you’ve done really well- I think being back at work will help distract you a bit. Who cares if anyone thinks you look lazy. Right now you need to think and take good care of yourself. Thinking of you and wishing you a BFP!!!

Em- sounds like a hell of a day! Try to do something fun just for you now. Hang in there!

Sofia-I’ve not heard of a diluted shot- I’m curious to know more when you get the info. Thanks for the sperm study. We are at a University hospital as well and they prescribed a new tmt to help my DH’s low count and morphology- they gave him serophene (aka.clomid) 25 days a month half a pill with 5 days off. It help his count slightly by 20% and improved morphology. He also did 4 acupunture sessions.

Sally-Have you had similar rashes b4? Are you taking sesame or peanut oil based progesterone injections? Be careful about that rash- I developed one when I was in the hospital and they kept me cuz they thought it might be an allergic reaction(I’m on progest. Inj. with sesame). It turned out to be contact allergies to the soap/facecloths at the hospital coz my face and neck cleared up with the cream.
If it doesn’t clear up maybe you should call the clinic.Sounds like you’re doing pretty on your 2ww.

Lauralou-Congrats!!! Its so exciting when you finally get the date of your EC confirmed. Make sure you drink a lot of fluids and rest until wed. Let us know how it goes. Good luck! Lots of BIG follies.

As for me- my lungs are doing much better- I can go up and down the steps in our house quite comfortably- not running yet but soon :) . I’m not using the Oxygen tank as much- we paid for it so when I feel tired it helps- so might as well use it. I caught my DH using it yesterday morning-he said he was curious.

My nervousness has been off and on since Saturday. As the count down is almost here- I just can't wait to get an answer. We had guests over for Mother's day yesterday and my sis-in-law announced that my DH's cousin is 2 months pregnant (by accident) she's been dating a guy for 5 months and was hiding it from her parents. She announced it on Friday cuz she decided to move in with him today-since he just finalized his divorce. IT was a shocker for everyone. I guess I just took it sadly cuz we want babies so babdly and have been trying so hard- and for them it just falls right into their hands. Obviously, I am aware it must still be difficult for them- it is very different. But I couldn't help but feel really down last night. My DH keeps repeating that he will love me no matter what happens- he was really supportive and talked to me for hours- luckily I have him. One thing is for sure this challenge has made us very close and incredibly honest to each other.

I think I'm going to watch somehing funny on the TV now.(take my own advice).

Hugs to everyone!

Thank you all for your support, it is much needed. Although I am really excited about my EC on Wednesday things are still very up in the air here as regards DH going away. I keep thinking about how we're going to manage whether I get a BFP or BFN, either way I will have to go through it on my own to some extent which I am really not looking forward to at all! If we do have to go through another cycle, which is highly likely given this is our first attempt at IVF, I'm thinking that I don't think I'll be able to do it all without DH being here - mainly because of the tiredness - so I'm even mulling over ditching my job and moving to Nottingham to live with my parents for a while (they will be pleased  )... who knows, everything seems so unstable at the moment!

Lucy - please keep up the pma, craving chocolate can only be a good thing :) and you never know, it could just be a false signal.

Jackoa21 - good luck starting those stims tomorrow - welcome to the next level!

Natalie - 6th time's a charm. Why shouldn't it be you this time? You have as much chance as the rest of us on this board I'm sure. Try balancing each negative thought with a positive one - see if that works. If you've been through IVF 6 times you must be very strong - PMA PMA PMA!

Em - your day sounds like utter crap. If I were you I'd get the chocolate out and spend your evening making a pretty voodoo doll of your boss

Sofia - I've never heard of a diluted trigger shot, sounds interesting. Excuse my ignorance, but why does a polyp reduce your chances - how does it affect things?

Sally - glad to hear you're happy, apart from the rash - hope it goes down.

LauraLou - we're ECing on the same day - hooray!!

Wendy - all the best to you in your 2ww, hope your DH is keeping up his good behaviour :D

Cyot - good for you, taking it easy - I hope I can do the same as I sometimes have to lift computers and boxes around - no way do I want to do that any more!

Dania - wow your DH sounds lovely. It's so hard when you have to deal with other people's pregnancies - my cousin gave birth a few weeks ago and I didn't realise how much it would affect me until I saw her baby, I just cried and cried afterwards. Luckily she understood and cried with/for me. Glad to hear your lungs are better - can't believe what you've been through.
