Post by Emma27 »

Anyone got any good advice for a severe sore throat, usually i would just pop down to the chemist, however i have been told that whilst on the Fostrim i can only take paracetamol, any good herbal advice for this?

I was told the best thing to take for a sore throat by the chemist and by my doctor was honey.

It worked for me.

Hi Emma,
I am a singing teacher and am always being asked what to do for a sore throat. My usual reply is just wait and see how it goes. Eat lots of boiled sweets (sugar keeps the throat coated so throat dries out less easily) and have honey a couple of times a day.
If the pain is unbearable there is a great spray called Diflam. It won't deaden your throat but does disinfect it. It works a treat, but don't expect your throat to stop feeling sore.
I had tonsilitis the other week (something I've only had once before in my life- very painful)a and as I'm already taking baby aspirin, I decided to gargle with it. I am convinced it helped quicken the healing process and I definitely felt better for a while after doing it.
Above all rest your thraot as much as possible and drink lots of water.
Let me know how you get on.
