Drug alterations during IVF cycle

Hi Girls, I wonder if you can answer a question for me. I am in the middle of an IVF cycle at present and yesterday had my first scan (Day 5 of stimulation). Not much seems to have happened so far but the clinic have declined to increase my drugs. I have another scan booked for tomorrow. This is my 2nd IVF attempt and I am listed as a "poor responder" and during prepartion for cycle I was told that the purpose of the early scan is to see if I had responded and if necessary increase the drugs so I cant understand why they wont now do it. (1) Do drugs ever get increased during a cycle and in what circumstances? (2) At what point (ie no of days) is it no longer possible/good practice to still increase drug dosage? (3) Are clinic being reasonable at present? Many thanks, Allison

hi alison, on both my ivf cycles my drugs were upped, they obviously check your follicles and your bloods to see how you are responding, and up or down drugs accordingly. on my last cycle i was upped more than once and on fsh for 20 days!! that seemed like forever, infact it flippin was lol. anyways you keep your chin up, everything will be fine, relax, put your feet up and just jab what you need to when you need to and let nature take its course. take good care and lots of ++++++++++ coming at ya tracey xxxxx

Dear Allison I did my first cycle last year, I was on 250i.u. after 7 days I was scanned and as I was not responding to drugs my dose was upped to 350iu, for a couple of days. They also say I am a poor responder! I am currently on my 2nd cycle and I am also injecting, this is my forth today. They put me on 350i.u., but I am not having an early scan, it is the same as last time, I am going on Friday morning to see how I am getting on, this will then be a week of injecting. Just try not to be too anxious about it, and know it is hard, but they do know what they are doing. Good luck for tomorrow, I hope it all goes well for you. Allison Our first cycle of IVF was abandoned as I was poor responder. They checked on Day 8 last time and upped my dose but it was cancelled on Day 14 as only 3 follies and they werent big enough. This time I started on a higher dose and was checked on day 6. I was upped again and had approx 20 follies by e/c stage. Collected 12 eggs and 5 fertilised. I go for pg test 2mrw (fingers crossed). It is good that they have scanned day 5 and are scanning again 2mrw. I would think that if there is still not much happening then they will up your dose. Good luck Bertie x

Marteen/Bertie, Thanks for your replies. Marteen - sounds like you are 2 days behind me - today is my 6th day of stims - it will be nice to keep in touch with how you are doing over the next week or so and into the dreaded 2WW (if I get that far) How many follies did you get last time? I only got 3. I am on a short protocol and had 450iu for 2 days and 300iu each day since then. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I have just had a slow start and tomorrow will be much better. Hope you scan goes well on Friday - let us know how you get on. Bertie - Sorry to hear your first cycle was abandonned but sounds like you have done much better this time round. I will keep everything crossed for a positive result tomorrow. Can I just ask you what dosages you had this time, both to start with and then what it was increased to. 20 follies sounds brilliant. Marteen/Bertie, Marteen - Thanks for sending me an E mail. Unfortunately problems with my E mail at present so can you post your message instead. I have had 2 further scans and have 6 follies growing although only 3 of them are a reasonable size. Still hoping for a growth spurt and even talking to them to encourage their growth. Have I lost it or what!!!!!!How are you doing - I think you were having a scan today? - hope things are going well and that you havent lost your marbles like me. Bertie - How did you get on. Hi Allison 6 follies is really good! So what is happening next with you? when do you go up again? I have been for my scan today. I have 7 follies growing and I think I have to go back for another scan on Monday. They have to confirm this afternoon after results of my blood test, they seem to think I will be doing my late night injection Monday. We will see!!! Alison As you prob know by now I am pg!!!!! Had blood test again yesterday as I've been spotting. Yesterdays was to check that my hcg hormones had doubled - mine had more than doubled!! Re drugs doses. This time round I was on 3 times the dose of my 1st cycle. When I went for scan on day 6 there werent many so they upped my dose from 3 amps to 5 amps (think this is 350).
