Stim Drugs and side effects

Post by CAC »

Hi. This is my first IVF cycle. Today is day 4 of my stim drugs and my retrieval is scheduled for the 13th. I'm nervous about all of these changes and for the past few days, there is a lot of bloating in my belly. Can anyone tell me if they experienced the same feeling? Does this continue to get worse until the retrieval? Does the bloating eventually go away after the retrieval? Thanks for the feedback.

You have come to right place. These ladies are amazing.. You may want to post this to the general thread.. It sometimes gets more traffic.. I also went through my first IVF. I am currently in the 2ww so we shall see but to answer your question I had the bloating a little before the ER and it is still with me.. I think under general someone posted about the expanding belly after stims and I think most people said it does last a little while.
best of luck to you

Your ovaries are swelling in response to FSH. That's a good sign.

If they "trigger" you with hCG, you might experience a LOT more swelling. That's called ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), and that is not good. OHSS is rare, but very unpleasant.

Hi Cac, I didn't experience any swelling. The only swelling I had was with the progesterone pessaries - my chest was so sore! Good luck with your treatment. Paula x

Ladies,
Thank you for your responses. I just had an appointment today and they found 18 eggs (I had 10 on Friday)! Anyway, they reassured me it was normal and they'll probably take the eggs by Monday or Tuesday. Good luck to all of you. If you have any advice for a first-timer, I'd appreciate it!

I dont have a lot of advice as I am a new timer also but I would suggest you flip over to the general page.. There are a lot of ladies around the same time in the cycle as you are.. I think there is even one called June collection..
best of luck to you and lots of sticky baby dust
