Hi SB :)

I joined the site on Friday. I do wish you luck for your 1st attempt - keeping fingers crossed. I am hoping to start my 2nd attempt in August. I will be 38 in August and my boyfriend will be 47. My 1st attempt was in August 2003.

As you said it is good to read all the stories.

New girl from Switzerland!

Post by IVFSwitzerland »

Hi, Im Sally 37 years of age, husband 34 and have been trying for not that long but long enough and with enough problems and old age (in my case!) to try for IVF - first one planned for this September, having tried 3 unsuccesful IUIs. Im trying to find out if there is any known facts about the differences between doing IVF with fresh eggs each time or using fresh for the first time and then frozen for the 2nd or 3rd attempt? I have heard so many conflicting stories - if anyone knows please fill me in as the doctors here in Switzerland favour the fresh and then frozen approach.
thanks Sally :)

Hi girls,

I just want to welcome you!

Sb, Sally, we have had a lot of lucky first timer lately, who had a BFP on their first attempt, so I wish the same to you!

Sally, most of the girls here have a fresh cycle, and if they are lucky to have some embies frozen, then the following cycles are with frozen (if unfortunately the fresh did not work). We have plenty of girls getting a BFN with fresh and then getting pregnant with a frozen cycle!! I dont think there is a lot of differences between fresh and frozen, only the frozen cycle seems a lot more easier, less drugs, no EC etc...
I am having my treatment in France (I am French), and IVF number 3 is for (hopefully) september as well, so we will be budies!

Down, it seems like an awful long time to wait between your 2 cycles. The waiting is driving me crazy. Been 9 months since my last and i am not sure to be sane anymore!! wishing you luck for August!

Take care

Thanks for the warm welcomes!!!

Still a bit shy when it comes to talking about all of this, due to the treatment being new to me.

Feeling rather nervous about it all.

Quick question here (which will no doubt be put on the wrong thread lol)

Did you all turn in to raging trolls when you had your hormone injections? Thats what scares me the most out of ALL the treatment.

Love SB

Sb,

I certainly did!! My hubby was not with me for both cycles, and although it was hard for me, I think it was a good thing because I dont think he would have understand or be patient enough with me! My mum was with me on the 2nd cycle and said I was horrible... :x
I think the worst is the crying for no reason... The nurse came one evening for the daily injection, 1 sec I was fine and we were chatting, the next I just bursted into tears, poor thing, she thought she'd hurted me!!

We react all differently, but you have to be prepared , it can be very hard emotionally...

You should post on the general forum, there is a great bunch of ladies there and u will get a lot more answers. Dont hesitate to ask any question and dont be shy, we all go through the same thing!!

Hi Souris

I have waited so long for my 2nd attempt because I went through a stressful time about a year after my 1st and I knew I couldn't be stressed whilst going through with IVF. The other reason is that I am really nervous after the 1st attempt. My stomach went funny this morning and that was just phoning the clinic up to make an appointment to see the consultant. I really want to get through this

I am like SB - I am quite shy and I am frightened about what to type because I don't want to put the wrong thing.

Dawn, dont worry, there is nothing you cant tell here. You can post for any questions, even if you think they are silly! you will find great support. Some of us post when we are angry, tired, fed up, happy etc... we just talk about anything and everything, which is great.

I am sorry you went through a difficult time for your 1st attempt, and i am sure it will be ok this time, and at the end, it will be all worth it!

As I told Sb, you should join the general forum, it is a lot more busy there
and the girls are just great.

Hi SB. Well to the site. I'm also 36. Congratulations on reaching the top of the list. We were on the list for just over 3 yrs and didn't think we'd ever reach the top when out of the blue we got a letter to say they'd updated the list. All the very best with your treatment. I had no side effects with my drugs. Only really the progesterone pessaries - sore chest! Take care. Paula x

Hi there

Nice to have a new joiner - welcome! I wish you the best of luck.

Can someone tell me why you have to have the first attempt at IVF and then wait another 3 years for the next attempt - I am having my first attempt in September - if I have enough eggs, cant I use the frozens ones after for a 2nd and 3rd attempt - why do some people have so many years between their first and second attempt? I am not a bit confused and a bit sad as didnt think I would have to wait years between treatments - if any one can help please let me know - thanks

hey everybody, welcome hope to see you all over on the general board dont think your being ignored its just this thread doesnt get as much traffic as the general....

switzerland, i think it depends on where people are in there lives as to how long they wait i know at my clinic i can go on my very next AF if i wanted to but last time we waited from november to may i wanted my body to have some time off all the drugs and my mind to be very clear emotionaly ready, it takes a lot out of you a full ivf cycle its shocking, some people need time to save the money some people need more surgery or other treatment before embarking on a new cycle....i know if this doesnt work for me my Dr is going to want to remove my tubes so i may have to wait longer than i intended to.... but i think thats the main reasons for waiting so long i could be wrong..

good luck
