I am new to all of this too and love this site! Thanks! I start downreg on April 27th for my first cycle of ivf + icsi. I am keen to learn how to stay positive without getting my hopes too high as I suppose I want to protect myself from disappointment at the same time. All ideas much appreciated.
Good luck to anyone also about to start (hopefully you are more positive than me at this early stage... I have bouts of dread and avoidance!)
HI Kristin,
I am new also. Just finished my first cycle. It is hard to NOT get your hopes up. Not sure how similar that things are treatment wise in the US and UK, but I would be glad tell you about my experience. It seemed like the last six weeks have been a year! Be patient and good to yourself. Expect lots of moodiness. Hopefully you have an understanding partner. My husband had to take weekly shots of hcg in order to be able to produce sperm- we were dealing with male factor infertility. So we both were crazy! I had egg retrieval last week and three embryos were transferred on Monday of this week. Now it is waiting some more.
i will have to say staying positive has been the hardest thing for me to do during all of this..my dh some how has managed to stay so positive it has been really helpful for me.but the ladies here have been such a big support also.ive read alot of the post and that has helped me out also just to see so many has bfp its been great to see..good luck and hang in there
Truth is girls - you will have moments where you are positive and moments when you are negative. I kept a journal throughout my cycle (I highly recommend it) and I was recently reading back through it. It amazes me that, one day I was SURE it was going to work and literally the very next day I was writing "this has all been a waste of time, energy, and money". I even made a list of things I was going to do when I got my BFN - get drunk, go shopping for new clothes, etc. Turns out I got a BFP 2 days later. I honestly thought AF was coming b/c I was so crampy.
My point is - allow yourself to feel all of the emotions that come with this craziness - and depend on people like us girls on the boards and your husbands to be positive. My dh was 100% positive the whole time - and I can't tell you how many times he turned my attitude around. When you are feeling down - get on here and rant away - we are all here for each other.
I wish the very best to all of you!!

As you will have seen from the responses to your note already - the ladies on here our fantastic.
I am having treatment in London to at IVF Hammersmith. They have been very good so far although they have a lot of patients so sometimes can seem like a bit of a production line. It is my first time through IVF as both my tubes are buggered up! I started down reggie towards the end of March. Am now getting towards the end of stimmies so if all goes well it could be egg collection for me this week. Fingers crossed!
Come over to the General Forum. Join a thread there for either your cycle dates. I am on the April/May thread. Or one for your age.
Everyone is so helpful when you have questions/rough days. My husband does not like to talk about it too much and struggles if I get upset as he feels helpless to help so I have found these boards a total lifeline.
You can rant or laugh or cry - whatever helps you get through it all.
I went through two IVF cycles. The first one my dh and I didn't talk to anyone. It was not successful and I was an emotional wreck for months. For the second cycle, we formed an "emotional support group" with family and friends. It was much better and the cycle worked!
Hi all
many thanks for all your wonderful thoughts. I am now on my 2ww and this is now the hardest part of the journey. The downreg was fine as I was so excited I was finally DOING something and it was all hopeful. I felt physically exhausted but I set up a weekly massage and also acupuncture and combined with lots of reading of this site found it went fine. The stims was good as I felt better physically but then I did hyperstimulate which is only just starting to calm down! I have kept busy at work and at home and I think that has helped me maintain some sanity! But 1 week left and I am worried all of this has been a waste of time..... oh well.... gotta hang on in there!
Anyway, Shelley WELCOME Do come over to the general forum and post your test dates on our June test date thread so that we can follow eachother's progress
with lots of love
Kristin
