Double Trouble

Post by Daniella »

Hi,

I noticed that there are no current topics for those of us that are expecting twins. I thought that maybe it might be nice to have an area.

If you are expecting twins maybe you would like to joint a new thread. If you think that this is a good idea I would be pleased to hear from you and see if the thread takes off.

So here are some details about me:

I am 30 and DH is 38 nearly 39yrs. This was our first try at IVF and I was certainly not expecting it to work. So with this in mind I was utterly amazed and shocked when we got a BFP. Then to find out we were having two babies. Speachless was not the word. I am now Just 10wks so it is all still very early, but at the same time it seams like forever since we got the BFP. We are both so excited about this and I am feeling very positive, dispite, having some complications a few weeks ago.

I was taken ill about 4 weeks ago, with severe stomach cramps, and had to call an ambulance from the side of the motorway. After being told they weren't sure why I had the cramps I was sent home as a further scan showed that the embabies were ok. So two weeks later after still being ill for 2 weeks with what I thought was just a viral infection I was admitted to hospital. Turns out that I had an infection in one of may ovaries, and it had swelled to about the diameter of a coffee mug, so pretty big!! A week in hospital and lots of pain killers later, everything settled down again, and I was alowed to go home. A scan 2 weeks ago showed that both embabies had grown and had good strong heartbeats. So all is well that ends well. :D

Anyway that is enough about me. It would be great to hear from you and maybe we can all support each other through what is going to be an amazing journey for us all.

I'm active on the 2nd T thread, but will definately join this one with you too. It's fun to talk to others with twins. It seems so unique. I love telling people I'm pregnant...and then pausing...then saying "and it's twins"....and then watch their face beam!

This was also our 1st IVF attempt and I wasn't expecting it to work either. Of course after failed IUI's and all we've been through over the years I'm always careful not to get my hopes up. So it was a major shock to me also.

Daniella, it sounds like you had quite a crazy time being in the hospital and such. I hope you are feeling better now. I didn't stop worrying about losing my babies until just last week when I hit 17 weeks. I'm finally realizing that this might be happening for real. I go 2 weeks from today for my next scan and will find out the sex of the babies.

It sounds like we're in for "double trouble" as you call it once they are born. We have our work cut out for us. But I couldn't be happier about it. I just joined a "moms of multiples" club and will start attending their functions next month.

I've gained 20 pounds already and 9 inches on my waist.

Ok, I'm rattling on. I'm going on vacation for 4 days, but will definately read up on posts when I get back and see how many others are joining us.

Hi there

Nice thread to join, thanks.
I am also expecting twins and am having my anomaly scan tomorrow... I am so excited. We are hoping that we can find out the sex as I want to prepare early.

Like you two's, this was our first attempt at IVF and didn't expect it to work first time. I was admitted to hospital with moderate OHSS the day I tested positive, and when I had my first scan, they saw two sacs with only one pole and heartbeat. I was just exstatic with the news there was one baby and didn't even think about the empty sac.... til the following week with scan no.2. There it was, another heartbeat.

Daniella and Kristi - Have you suffered much with morning sickness. It's wierd but the reason I didn't consider twins is because I didn't have any nausia or sickness. I never have had either. Hopefully I haven't just been the lucky one.

We have started buying things for the babies already. Well actually I started around week 12. I couldn't wait and kept using the excuse that with two, there is so much to buy so better start now!!!

There is a lovely book called "Double Trouble" and I can't remember the auther (and can't be bothered to run upstairs, where the book is!) but her first name is Emma. If you haven't already read this book, buy it or borrow it from the library.... it's hillarious. I was laughing madly even after the first page. Well worth the read.

I also look forward to hearing from anyone who is expecting double trouble.

Good luck all

I have the book "Double Trouble" also!!! I enjoyed it as well and found it helpful. Although I have to admit it's like a "survival guide"...I know it's reality, but it sure makes everything sound difficult!

I have morning sickness, which was actually worse in the evening, from weeks 6-14. Then at week 14, it all went away. I've felt great since then! You are lucky you didn't have sickness, Chellejaya!

I just stepped into a baby dept last week (week 16) for the first time, and now have been buying a few things. I can't wait to find out the sex so I can buy matching outfits (not too many though) and colors like pink or blue!

Can't wait to here about your scan tomorrow, Chellejaya. Run around the building before the scan so your babies are active and showing their privates! :)

Hi there

I cannot believe how lucky we are. Had my scan today and we are having a girl and a boy. I feel so very very happy, I can't expain.

The scan itself was amazing and both babes are doing really well. The little boy is just like Mark... laid back and chillin out and the little girl is like me... she was doing somersaults. My mum said she will probably be bossy like I was (and still am hehe)

I am in awe and can't think of anything else today.

How is everyone else.

Jen your pics are amazing. I haven't any like that unfortunately.

Love to all

Twins make 3

Post by kathya »

Hi Ladies,
We are also expecting twins. I'm 10 weeks along, and still very nervous about this pg. I'm 38, husband is 40, and we have an adopted son who is 41/2. This was my 8th try, but my first success. Its all very exciting and nerve wracking! We certainly weren't expecting twin, nor am I prepared for having 3 kids!!!
I have some nausea but mostly at night. I just feel very bloated! Is anyone hungry ALL the time??? Seems like I'm on a 2 hour feeding schedule
Our due date is in January.... so a long way to go. When can you find out the sex?
Thanks for starting this thread, I will post as soon as we go to our first OB appt next week.

Chelle, I'm so happy for you! A boy & a girl. How wonderful. Now you can start thinking of boy/girl names and deciding how you will decorate the baby room or 2 rooms, etc. I find out the sex of my twins next week. I can't wait!

Jen, your pictures are very amazing! You definately can be proud of those and show everyone you know! The 4-D's are amazing. My mother would drop over if she saw them. She still can't believe that I get one ultrasound, let alone as many as I keep getting. She says "we never had ultrasounds when we were pregnant".

Kathy, what a blessing for you after 8 tries! You guys sure didn't give up. I'm so happy to hear that you are having twins after all the effort and agony you went through. You deserve it. They say you tell the sex usually between 18-20 weeks....sometimes as early as 16 weeks if you are lucky. I also had nauseau at night...it went away at 14 weeks. And yes, I eat small every 2 hours too.

So here's a question for all of you. One baby room, or two? I hear that one room is much easier. But if I have a boy/girl then I think I want to decorate separate rooms with boy/girl colors. Not sure????

Hi Ladies,

Well it is wonderful to read of other people who are having twins too. Kathy, I am also due in Jan. EDD Jan 4th. So I am 11 weeks at the mo, and have my scan in another couple of weeks. So I am thinking that I will right now I might go to about 38 weeks so it looks like it will be around christmas time. That is a scarry thought, cooking Christmas Dinner and having two newborns. How cool though if they are here for Christmas. What a prezi. I am also very hungry, I have been lucky though with the sickness, I havn't had much sickness at all for the last few weeks. Although I cannot stand the smell of garlic or coriander. Makes me what to throw. Nice!! I am also a bit worried about the prostpect of what could gp wrong, but I think that you just have to take one day at a time and enjoy each day. Don't stress I am sure that you will have a very healthy and happy pregnancy. I am so looking forward to getting fat. The only thing I am not looking forward to is the stretch marks. Have any of you ladies got any tips? I am smothering myself in creams. Lets just hope they work.

Chelle, Wow you are so lucky. Does this mean you will never have to go through the IVF rollercoaster again. One of each. What a blessing. I am hoping that Andrew and I are a fortunate as you are. But what ever we get I will be so greatful for the opertunity to finally be a mum.

Jen, what can I say. AMAZING!!!!! I cannot beleive how wonderful they are. Where did you get them done? Hope you don't mind me asking, but is it very expensive to have done. Please tell us more, I would love to have some of mine.

Hope to hear from you all soon. Loving reading your posts girls.

Take care and keep us posted with all your developments.

Hugs to you all.

Daniella, I'm using the stretch mark creams too. They say they might not help, but yet they might help, so why not try them. If nothing else we'll have smooth skin, right?

Hi everyone

With regards the dreaded stretchmarks, my friend has had 3 babies (no twins mind you) and she told me that she used a normal body cream on her tum twice a day throughout her pregnancy and she has never had a stretchmark. Now I know it's down to good skin and luck but hey, worth a try. I have used body lotion or baby oil on my tum twice a day and I haven't got one yet and I am huge already!!!.

Love to all

Daniella

This seems an excellent thread idea! I am 9 weeks with twins :D and really sick!!! It was my 3rd fet.

Your infection must have been so scary…..thank goodness your little ones are okay. That is so what you don’t need!!

Kristi

I am pleased it does hit you that it may be real!! At the moment I am so scared of every twinge and pull. Before getting a BFP I thought I would be happy and relax when I reached 12 weeks but now I know it will take longer!!!

Did the sickness really just go away? How bad was yours? I am also much worse in the evening  , but I think it could be as I have more time to think about it!! I could be sick at any point from the time I wake up until my head hits the pillow at night. However, I manage to ‘control’ it and usually just throw up once or twice in the evening.

Chellejaya

Congrats. Boy and girl!!! Wow!!! You lucky duck!! I cant wait to know what mine are! :D :D

Kathya

There are lots of us due in January! I wonder it that will really be December….twins are always early!!!  :D

Jen
Your girls are just gorgeous! Well done

Hey guys. Thought maybe I could jump on this bus for a short time. I think I'm one of the next ones up to deliver twins.

I've been where most of you are, so maybe I can offer something to the discussion. My third tri board is sooooo quiet. I know there's a bunch there, they just must be wrapped up in the last stage of being preggers.

Anyways, congrats to all of you on your twin pregnancies. Lumi, I'm tickled pink to see you here!

Lumi, yes there is life (without sickness) after the 1st T. I feel so great right now. Ok, some pains here and there. But I have energy & no sickness. It went away at about 14 weeks. My biggest problem was nauseu, I just always felt to queezy, dizzy and sick.

I find out the sex of the babies at my scan on Thursday! I'm so excited to find out. My dh and I have a gut feel that maybe it's boy/girl. But maybe that's because EVERYONE tells me that it would be neat to have one of each...so they've put that in my head.

Denise, at 31 weeks, what are you doctor's telling you at this point? Are you getting close? Are you really big and uncomfortable? Are you on bed rest? Your in the stage that I worry about....carrying them long enough vs having preemies.

Hi Kristi.

Nope, no bedrest. I'm at appt.s every 2 weeks now, with an u/s every month. They are watching my sugar levels in urine, BP, etc. but everything is normal still. 3 weeks ago my girls were already 3 lbs, so they're growing well.

Depending on what type of twins you're carrying, they might also be watching for twin to twin transfusion syndrome. And you really have to pay attention to what your body is saying, and rest when you need to. I'm still working, but the doc will write me off at anytime. I'm measuring full term for what a single baby would be.

So, basically you're right. You set milestones to reach, and each one you hit your babies have a better shot at being fully developed. So, no crazy chances with anything - you have to keep focussed on keeping your body a healthy place for those babies.

We've gone for our hospital tour, and with twins things are more clinical for sure. But, honestly, we've all worked hard to get here, so the details of your birth plan aren't that important, as long as you get two healthy babies out of the deal.

So, enjoy second tri. I stopped throwing up by 14 weeks too, and wasn't so huge I was that uncomfy. Its a nice stage of the pregnancy.
