I'd love to know your success stories about going through IVF with fibroids.
I've just had a failed IVF cycle and was told it could be due to fibroids. They were all small prior to treament (during investigation) and could have grown during the stims. I am waiting for AF to arrive so they can do a U/S for now.
I am trying to be hopeful and keeping my fingers crossed.
Thanks.

Hi Dania,
I had a fibroid prior to IVF and IUI. They new about it before I started my rounds of fertility treatments, but realized there wasn't much they could do about it. Many times they grow back after being surgically removed. Then there's the option of having uterine fibroid embolism to cut off the blood supply, but you run the risk of losing an ovary in the process. My fibroid was only 5 cm before I got pregnant, but it grew to the size of a grapefruit by the end of my pregnancy (you could literally see it looking at my belly-everyone thought it was my daughter's bottom poking out =). Fortunately mine was high and didn't cause any complications with my pregnancy. It was hanging off the outside of my uterus. I was never told that it could be preventing me from getting pregnant - but again - it was outside my uterus.
My fertility doctor said she also had a fibroid when she was pregnant and that her fibroid shrunk during pregnancy. According to her they can go either way.
Best of luck to you with your next round of IVF.
Sincerely,
Kelly

Thank you for replying- I find it inspiring that you have a 9 month old baby girl- Congratulations! You give me hope.
That's too bad that your fibroid grew during your pregnancy. Was it painful? Yes I was told that by the doctor that some grow others shrink they don't seem to know why.
If you don't mind me asking- what happened with your fibroid after you gave birth?
I am doing acupuncture right now which is supposed to help and eating really healthy(not easy since I love sweets!) I figure it can't do any harm to try more than one way!
Thank you so much and Good Luck!

Dania,
I didn't have any pain with the fibroid during my pregnancy. The only time I recall feeling anything at all was towards the end when it was really obvious from the outside. My doctor would always press on it to feel it's boundaries. It didn't hurt, but it did feel somewhat uncomfortable to have him press on it.
Not sure what happened to it after the birth of my daughter. I haven't had an ultrasound since, and that was really the only way to see it. I have a feeling it must have shrunk a bit. I'm back to my pre-pregnancy weight and I have a small waist, so if it was still the size of a grapefruit I think it would be visible. Could be totally wrong, but that's my guess. I'll probably ask the doctor about it during my next annual. To be honest ... I forgot to ask him during my post visit.
Good luck with your next IVF treatment! I did the same thing with my last treatment (which ended with a BFP) ... acupuncture (which I believe did a WORLD of good for my stress levels), cutting out sweets, caffine, etc. I think it all helps. If not physically, then psychologically. Look forward to seeing your BFP on this forum =) Think positive!
