I'd love to know if there is anyone going through IVF that has fibroids.
I've just had a failed IVF cycle and was told it could be due to fibroids. They were all small prior to treament (during investigation) and could have grown during the stims. I am waiting for AF to arrive so they can do a U/S.
I am trying to be hopeful and keeping my fingers crossed.
Thanks.

Hi Dania. how are you? I've also had fibroids. In 1999 I had embolisation to shrink a large fibroid then 2 years ago I had a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy to check my uterus and remove another fibroid. They found I had some endometreosis. I have awful periods. When I had my first scan before IVF they looked for fibroids but couldn't see any. I'm sure I do have again coz my periods are mega heavy and painful again. The doctor said he would only be concerned if I had ones in my uterus cavity. I've read a lot and women have had babies with having fibroids. Have you had any treatments? Good luck. Paula x

Hi Dania! I have also had fibroids. My periods were awful. I could not leave my house because my periods were so heavy. I was ttc with no luck - mine was removed in 2004 - my doctor said it was the size of a grapefruit. My periods are much better but I have been through 2 IVF cycles with no success - my second IVF cycle was cancelled on Saturday because I only had 4 follicles (primary ovary syndrome?) My doctor said that my uterus has scar tissue where the fibroid was removed.
I wish you the best of luck - I hope that your fibriods are not as large as mine were!

Paula & Nicole-
Yes I did have a treament done in dec. 2003 for a large fibroid (8cm) in the cavity- I had been complaining to my Gyno for a year of heavy periods but she said not to worry until I was rushed to the hospital due to heavy bleeding- that's when they discovered how big it was and I was anemic.I saw a few doctors until I found one who offered to reduce it via 3 montly Lupron injections and then to do a hysteroscopy. They reduced it to 4.5cm and the hysteroscopy went well. After a year of trying- we went back to the clinic- they did a Saline U/S and found a few small ones mm sized- so they said not to worry they were not in the cavity and lots of women get pregnant with them, but my DH had male factor. Now I'm just waiting ofr my AF to arrive (4 days late which can happen due to meds last month) so they can do another Saline and check the cavity- which they think they saw something and might do an open myomectomy.
This makes me nervous.
Paula-How was the embolisation? Sorry to hear that your periods are heavy again- I know what that's like. After I stopped the last progesterone injection last month I had some really heavy bleeding so I got worried again about the fibroids. How was your period after an IVF cycle that had eneded?
Nicole- I'm so sorry that your IVF was cancelled. I Hope you're feeling OK.
It sounds like we had similar painful periods. Mine have been better too since the treatment. I asked about the stims affecting fibroid growth and they said it does make them grow. What will they do about the scar tissue ?
I wish you both Good Luck and lots of baby dust. I'll be checking back here to hear how you are doing.

Hi Dania. I thought the embolization treatment was great. I felt like a new women. Unfortunately it only worked for a couple of years. I've been told my options of treatment are limited because I want to keep my fertility. I've been told that there is nothing more that they can do for me. My period after my 1st treatment wasn't too bad. My next one was horrendous - big clots, very painful and very heavy. I think my first one was the size of a grapefruit too. It was either 8cm or 10cm. The embolization really shrunk it. We have to be careful with surgery coz as we know scar tissue can cause problems. Good luck. Paula x
