I am 27 and was told I have premature ovarian failure or menopause, is my only option to have my own baby getting an egg donar? I havent meet anyone who has dealt with this and I am curious how it has changed others lives...Does anyone have any usefull advice?
Having a baby and a family are priceless, of course, whether by donor or your own eggs. But if it would also be priceless to you to hear someone say "she has your eyes", then consider getting a second opinion. I would.
There are, unfortunately, some clinics out there that are as interested in their own numbers as in their patients. Some tend to steer marginal patients toward donor cycles in order to boost their published success rates.
Hi Candy,
I was told at 21 that I had premature ovarian failure or early onset menopause. I have never been regular my whole life. I would have maybe 4-6 periods a year and went a whole year with no af. I had heard of this surgery called ovarian wedge ressection and went and had it done. Its when they go in and take a tiny piece out of your ovaries and it is supposed to stimulate ovulation. When the doctor got in there, he discovered (which ultrasound can be very deceiving, because I had a couple and they told me that one was small and the other was normal) that I practically had no ovaries. That was 3 years ago. I had not been on any horomones except for BCP for a period of time before that. He put me on Premarin and Progesterone and I have never felt better. My moods before were horrible because I wasn't producing any estrogen. Can you imagine if they would have figured this out earlier? My puberty and since had not been a very fun time. Anyways, I am doing the july cycle with my sister and dh and am soo excited. In closing I don't know if I necessarily had premature ovarian failure because I don't believe they ever worked. Good luck with whatever you do. I'm glad to find you on here.

HI......... I AM 25 AND I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH PREMATURE OVARIAN FAILURE ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO. I HAVE ONLY BEEN MARRIED FOR A MONTH. ME AND MY HUSBAND ARE GOING THROUGH THE EGG DONATION PROCESS AT THE MOMENT, I AM ON THE PREP CYCLE. I AM SO AFRAID ALL OF THIS ISNT GOING TO WORK AND I AM REALLY SCARED. CAN ANYONE HELP ME. WE ARE BOTH IN GREAT HEALTH BUT IM SO AFRAID THAT SOMETHING IS GONNA GO WRONG. SOMEONE HELP! I CANT WAIT TO BE A MOMMY!!!!!!!!!
Hi KC,
I don't know if anyone in your area offers the surgery, because it is kind of old school, but maybe you should look into an ovarian wedge ressection to stimulate ovulation. I did forget to add in my above note that when the dr got in there during the surgery that he did not complete the surgery because I practically had no ovaries. But if your ovaries are of normal size, I believe that surgery may work for you. But if you stick with the egg donor, good luck, I hope you get your bundle somehow. I don't know what to tell you about worring. I've been going through this for 10 years and if this doesn't work, I don't know what I'll do. Keep the faith girl!!

Again, I advise anyone diagnosed with premature ovarian failure to get a second opinion. Some clinics like to steer patients toward donor cycles when they don't really need it.
hi everyone,
i'm also 27 and in march i had a cancelled cycle due to poor response, infact i actually had no response i was on 6 amps of menopur.
i've just had a cycle with donor eggs from my sister but unfortunatlt BFN last tues
anywaygot my AF at mo and got 1 embie frozen for next time.
if this doesn't work i'm gonna try to find another way of stimming before i go for another donor cycle, i've never had problems with my natural cycles before always 28 days, and had natural precnancy 5 years ago with ex that i aborted coz wasn't right time in my life, never thought i'd go through this.
its very frustrating when you have a poor response but u have keep a PMA at all times because our time will come to be mummys!! whichever way we have to go around to get them.
Hang in there girls and keep in touch
me 27 dh 35
proor hubby got bad swimmers
i have bad response to stim drugs

I am 31 and just got my 3rd day bloodword done. FSH is 10.5 and E2 is 52.8. I was told that these numbers are not in the normal range. Are they really bad?
I would encourage anyone diagnosed with POF to request genetic testing for Fragile X. I have been TTC my second child for 18 months of ART (IUI and now IVF with donor embryos) and found out inadvertently about being a Fragile X carrier. It is a primary cause for POF and although relatively little research has been done regarding Fragile X carriers, researchers are beginning to discover strong links between infertility and carrier status. In addition it seems to be quite common to experience increased ovulatory dysfunction post first child. It may shed some light on difficulties you are experiencing and provide you with direction.
I AM SO SCARED. MY HUSBAND AND I GO FOR MY PREG TEST MARCH 06. WE DID A EGG DONATION CYCLE WITH AN ANOYMOUS DONOR. I HAVENT REALLY HAD ANY SYMPTOMS BUT A CRAMPY FEELING AND ALSO BEING TIRED ALL THE TIME. WE NEED EVERYONES PRAYERS!!!!!! BABY DUST TO EVERYONE
So sorry to hear you are dealing with this. I am 32 and have Diminished Ovarian Reserve caused by sever Endometriosis. You can read my full story at http://overhard.blogpost.com but the quick and dirty is 2 cycles cancelled due to no response to stim and one cycle completed with few eggs - no pregnancy.
My husband and I are moving toward donor egg. We are likely goign to use a clinic in the Czech Republic as we've heard a ton of great success stories from their and we can find a donor that has very similar features to me without going into debt.
The hardest part is reconcilling the fact that you are so young and have few or no eggs. It truly is a grieving process.
Best of luck to you - donor is a great alternative.
