hydrosalpinx disappeared on its own??

hi guys,

im new to this site and have a question i cant seem to find the answer to? i was told i had a hydrosalpinx on my right tube back in sept and went in for its removal tues just gone, however when i came to the doctor told me that my tube had not been removed as my hydrosalpinx was no longer there? so i said well how is that possible and all i was told was occasionally they just disappear?????? well iv searched everywhere for info on this happening and nowhere says this can happen!!! im desperate for answers, and just because it happened to go away doesnt mean it cant come back, which means yet another operation!

a girl on endochat told me that apparently hydrosalpinx's can form and disapate throughout your cycle and that an ivf-gynae doctor told her this, does any1 know if this is true? im goin crazy!!

ok im a hydro girl myself... i will tell you what ive learnt hope this helps you some... on my last IVF cycle i had a huge hydro on the left side all throughout the cycle in the end i got a bfn i think was more down to my reg than anything else... on my second cycle it had completly gone not a trace of it i have gone on to produce follies on that ovary im 3 days away from end of my cycle and out of the blue from nowhere i have a huge hydro on the right side and i mean overnight went one day for a scan all clear next morning huge hydro.... im at the point my clinic have said they will collect my eggs and take it from there we may have to freeze and treat the hydro....
my thing is i have looked into this a lot my clinic asked me to have my tubes out...not something i want to do with out real proof it makes a difference i was told point blank that they cant say that at all no proof i will use this in my meeting tomorrow to ask why put me through an operation for no reason...

so in answer to your question yes they do come and go just like the blink of an eye and noone as yet knows why or what they really are.. i will let you know what happens in my cycle i hope this helped a little please know this is very common for people with blocked tubes to get this your not alone there are many of us

thank you so much for taking the time to read my post and reply and giving me some answers!! my operation was only a week ago and i am not seeing the gynae til sept again to talk about my tubes etc, however i have a funny feeling they will just say im fine without giving me another scan to see if its back or not. this is because my gynae answer was that occassionally the body just reabsorbs the fluid!!! some how i dont believe this . oh yeah what does bfn mean? let me know how u get on with ur appointment hope u are otherwise well and ok. take care speak to u soon

im doing ok scared to get excited..i found out they didnt drain my hydro like my dr said they would so i have to talk to him tomorrow ..i go back tomorrow to have my implant so far i have 6 out of 11 embies all doing ok crosse your fingers for me... im praying the few i have read taht have babies on the way with a hydro in place are right and my little ones will be fine.

Six years ago i had a laparoscopy because my Gyn suspected Endo - i have always suffered from very painful periods. They didn't find any traces of endometriosis but diagnosed a hydrosalpinx in my left tube (i lost my right tube to an ectopic when i was 28).

Last year, after a long cycle of acupuncture i had a HSG to check if anything had changed, andlo and behold, no hydrosalpinx was detected! I was so puzzled, i went back to my gyn for a scan, and he too couldn't see it. Vanished. Maybe acupuncture did the trick, maybe this condition is just temporary and doctors still know very little about it.

I know this is an old post - but came across it when searching for examples of hyrosalpinges disappearing.

Just wanted to add that it has just happened to me too. I had a hydro on the right side - it seemed to give a watery discharge - and since acupuncture (about six weeks) discharge has gone - and a scan today revealed hydro had all but gone - just a small shadow on the scan that might be the remnants of it.

I've also stopped running - which I always suspect does my adhesion ridden insides no good (all that jogging up and down) - but really I think it must be the acupuncture.

Anyways - good luck for all of you with a hydrosalpinx - hope you're as lucky as me!

this is a very encouraging thread. i had a hysterosonogram a month ago, which found a polyp and enlongated cyst "or" hydrosalpine on my left tube. i am scheduled to have a surgery to remove the polyp and a lapa see whether i have hydrosalpin. the surgeon called me yesterday asking me whether i want him to remove the tube if it turns out be hyro........ his words really freaked me out, as my reg ob/gyn, who is not the surgeon, did not even discuss anything about they hydro tube with me. she just sz i had a cyst........

while debating what i should do next tuesday, i found this thread. happy to know that i am not the only one with hydro tube, and that it comes and goes. i guess i will not remove it and continue with my acupuncture tx, which i have been receiving since april due to miscarriage.

for those of you who are reading, please wish me luck for my surgery. will update later!

Thought i would pop in here and tell you my story.

I had hydrosalpinx on my left side and my fertility doc said it could affect the ivf outcome. He wanted my tube clipped - anyway the surgeon decided both tubes needed to be removed or more problems could come up later.

I had both tubes removed and ovary drilling done (due to pcos) 5 days ago. I am currently waiting for a call to discuss our next step.

Had we decided not to go through with the procedure we were told the embies could die due to hydro.

I have to say - that had I had the choice I would have opted to have the hydro removed by keyhole surgery or clipped like you sarahc - as my consultant said it does affect your chances negatively. Unfortunately just wasn't an option for me due to my history. Key-hole very difficult with lots of internal adhesions.

I was having the acupuncture anyway - and it just seems to be a happy bonus that the hydro has reduced/gone (?) - but personally I wouldn't rely on it to 'cure' a hydro. It could just be a coincidence of course - and as far as I know there is no medical evidence that acupuncture can treat hydros - although it has been proved useful in increasing ivf success rates overall.

I have this problem as well, although mine has never seemed to have disapeared.

I was all for having my tubes clipped or removed but the adhesions due to endo made that impossible.

I was told that the fluid can effect implantion and halve the normal ivf sucess rates.

Our consultant raised our case at a conference and found out that there is research to show that if you are given antibiotics before your egg collection and after your embryo transer (i think it was 7 days either way) that this can help protect the embryos.

Anyway my hydro was not picked up until after my 6th failed attempt. The last 2 ivf attempts I had I also had the antibiotics and this time it worked. Hard to know if thats down to the antibiotics or other factors (1st time having a blastocyst transfer and feeling totally relaxed after trying Reiki???)

It may be worth asking your consultants thoughts on this

I chose to have my hydrosalpinx removed even though some times the tube was fluid filled, and other times there was no sign of fluid. My take on the subject is that if fluid is collecting at the end of the tube, that means that there is some sort of blockage on the tube. Your body will reabsorb that fluid, but later it may start to collect again.

Years ago, I was told I had hydro, and when I pursued IVF, it should be removed. Went to current doc, and he did ultrasound and since no presence of fluid that he could see, said it was unnecessary. I did not believe that it could just disappear. I asked for an HSG, and sure enough, the tube was absolutely blocked. Which meant that tube could fill and re-absorb several times during my IVF cycle.

If it was blocked, and natural conception would never occur, I chose to remove the tube and avoid the possibility that fluid from a hydro would lessen the chances when I started the IVF process.
