Follies, eggs & embies!

Post by Corinna »

Hello all.

Well, I went to the clinic this morning for my final stimms scan. I'm booked in for EC on Monday!

They found 15 follies, but the nurse said there were a few smaller ones still (9mm & 10mm) so they may not get any mature eggs from these. She said that its looking good tho & my womb lining is 12mm which I'm pleased about. :)

She reckons they may get about 8 mature eggs.

My query is: if they get 8 eggs, what percentage are likely to fertilise and from the ones that fertilise, how many usually cleave into decent quality embies?? :?

I know its a near impossible question to answer, but I'm just wondering how many eggs you got from your follies and how many you lost along the way with all the proccesses.

I can't help thinking that 8 isn't a lot really. Ultimately, 2 grade 1 or 2 embies is all I want, but I'm worried that I won't get this from the number of eggs they get.

There are so many hurdles to overcome after EC. How many eggs will they get? How many will be mature? How many will fertilise? How many will cleave? Of the ones that cleave, how many will be of a good grade??

I know I'm being very paranoid, but I can't help worrying about not getting to the ET stage! :?

Sorry to be a big whinge bag!! Any advice would be groovy!!

Lots of love, Corinna xx

I think the percentage of mature eggs that fertilize is an average of 80 percent. As far as how many will cleave, I do not know. I'd guess it depends on the quality of the eggs and sperm. I had 18 follies collected (they told me only 16 at EC but found 2 more later :? ), 14 were mature and 11 fertilized. All 11 made it to day 3, 10 made it to day 4, 9 made it to day 5 (we put two back that day) and two more made it to day 6 (we were able to freeze these). :D Good luck!

Thanks Kareen & Debz.

Debz, I'm really sorry to hear about your BFN. :(

I was noseying on the forum the other day to find out how it'd gone for you. I was gutted for you!

How you feeling?? Whats your plan of action??

I'm sure it will happen for you. I've heard there are some great clinics in New York. Another fertility forum I was looking had a woman from London who tried about 4 times at her local clinic. She has friends in NY and ended up having tmt there. She got a BFP!

I would love to go to America for tmt, but I hate flying, so I've got zero chance of that happening!!

I was meant to be going to Florida last May, but we cancelled it cos of my flying fear. How bad is that!?!?

Corinna

I can only tell you what happened with my numbers.

I had 13 eggs collected. Was quite pleased as an older lady!!

They often find more follies on the day as some hide round the back of the ovaries and cannot be seen on the scans.

However, not all follies always contain an egg - sure that you know that.

10 fertilised but 2 were weird so they just let those go. They told me of the 8 by Day 2 all were 4 cell (7 good, 1 average). We had 2 put back and we have 6 in the freezer waiting for us.

For all my data, you need to bear in mind that my eggs are older so not so good.

Good Luck for your EC. Fingers crossed.
