Exercise and 2w???

Post by Lis »

Hi

I'm looking for some advice about exercising on your 2ww. I am due to have my first DIUI this week and not sure how easy to take it on 2 ww. I am a bit of an exercise fiend and usually run a few times a week plus teach an areobic class and do weight training (body pump). The nurse said just be "sensible". On one hand I'm thinking exercise is good for you so I should keep with my normal routine but then I think what if running (I usually do 3-4 miles at a time) decreases my chance of conception??

I would hate to get to this stage and ruin my chances but then I want to do what's best for my body and don't fancy no exercise every time I'm on a 2ww (I'm due to cycle every month til I get a BFP)

Any advice would be really appreciated :D

Lisa, the way i see it is that if you were getting pregnant normally you wouldn't even think about it, u would make love with dh one night get up go to work and then maybe go out running that night and the next night too, and u would still be preg, so i say treat it as normal!!!

However if you'd had IVF I would say chill a tad during 2ww.

But with iui its not so bad, parhaps just run 1 mile instead of 4 or maybe go swimming which is gentler!!!
Because u are paying for it, u might want to do less, so that u dont over do it....

I acted fairly normal during my 2ww's with 5 IUI's. I'm a runner also. All negative IUI's. With IVF because I was paying so much for it and only wanted to do it once, I took it easy during the 2ww. And now I'm pregnant with twins. Not that it's because I didn't exercise...but I wanted to give my body any chance possible to get pregnant and didn't want to look back and wonder if my exercise affected it. In fact, I took it easy for the first 12 weeks just to be safe. If you are worried about it I'd suggest walking...which is exercise, but mild.

Hi Lis

I was advised definately no swimming (risk of infection) and only light exercise - I didn't ask them to elaberate as I was planning on taking it easy anyway. If it's negative I would only be wondering if only I didn't ........

Good luck

Hi Kristi & Pebbles

Thanks for the advice. Maybe I will cut down on the running but do more of other stuff. That interesting about the swimming Pebbles I hadn't thought about it like that - I was actually thinking swimming would be good because it is gentle!

Kristi, so you don't think your exercise regime had anything to do with the -ve IUI's??

Dear Lis,

My clinic and the guru Zita West both recommended gentle exercise only in the first few weeks. Zita actually recommends 2 weeks rest whilst your embryos are implanting. I followed her to the letter and it worked for me but if you feel you will go stir crazy then just go power walking. Will keep you active but not disturb anything inside.

Good Luck

Saraid

Saraid thanks for the advice. You know I have Zita's book - maybe I should try reading it!! That sounds like a good idea with the power walking as I love walking. Also I've always meant to take up yoga or thai chi so maybe now is the time!

Nicki bloods ok although nearly fainted! Have posted the story on IUI girls thread which I have now joined :) Have to go 2mro for more bloods but wed or thurs looking likely as the day

Will keep you posted xxxx

Lisa, I don't know if the running contributed to negative IUI's. Probably not...who knows. Oh, when you do IVF my doc said not to bathe or swim during the 2ww, so that info is correct.

Good luck with the bloods this week!!!
