Tracii, DH is a bit worried about having babies at 48 (he feels old as he says). This is our 2nd marriage. I was married 10 years before and no children (infertility stuff the whole time though!). DH has kids from his first marriage, and they are college age now. Get this...DH has a set of twin boys from his first marriage (fraternal also, no infertility treatment though). Now he's having another set of fraternal boys. Needless to say he was in shock for awhile & worried about his age, etc, but he's doing really good about it now.

We were only going to have 1 baby (our agreement when we got married), so yes, I am very lucky to be having twins. He jokes and says that I tricked him into getting 2 kids like I really wanted. hee hee

We were actually in the process of adopting a baby from Russia when we decided to try IVF. So yes, adoption is a great idea too, I agree!

Daly - great to see you back! Congrats on the little girl! :D I was positive I was having a boy for the first couple of months, my dh still is. Lately, I have been feeling like it's a girl. Can't really explain why - just a feeling. I find out next month. Anyway - great to see you are off bed rest.

Terri - I laughed out loud at the visual of your dh pretending to be fallopian tubes resisting movement - how funny!!

Kristi and Traci - questions for you two since you are further along than me. When was the first time you felt any movement? I felt a little flutter on Fathers Day, and a slight "popping" sensation a couple of days later, but have felt nothing since. I am 16.5 weeks and I know it's still a little early to feel movement for a first pregnancy - but I just thought it was weird that I would feel something at 13 weeks and now nothing.

I am 31, and dh will be 32 this weekend - and we have thoughts too that this might be our only child, even though we are still plenty young enough to have more. My dh, too, was an only child and he has a life full of friends and family, in spite of having no siblings. We just had to go thru so much to get pg with this one, our income is modest, our house small, and our lives very busy. We feel like we are so blessed just to have this one. Of course EVERYONE has already asked me how soon after this one is born will I start IVF again to work on number 2 - GEEZ people! Let me get this one here first!! lol!!!

Thank you all so much for the welcome back. I'Ve really missed you!

Traci - Vienna sounds wonderful! It's been super hot here in LA too. I'm sure T-shirts and panties are considered regular attire with this LA crowd. I'm jealous your little one is moving so often. I only get to feel mine one time a day when I catch her kicking a few times. If I don't feel anything for a day I resort to my little hand held doppler. I'm a complete addict!!

Lisa - I share in your obsession to feel baby move. It is so amazing and I don't get it enough!! My dh keeps saying "let her rest, she trying to double in size". I'm barely resisting the impulse to poke my belly to get a reaction!! (saw that trick by the US tech, and boy did she immediatly start moving) They apparently are awake only 6 hours a day and I don't want to interfere with any beauty sleep!

Kristi - How amazing that you got your gift of twins despite the "one child" agreement!!! Great excuse to shop double as well! I'm glad your dh is over the initial shock. He should have a good handle on raising twins by now!

Terri - Sounds like we're having very similar pregnancy symptoms. I'm still totally tired and easily out of breath. At work a couple people have asked if I'm in a hurry...No just breath fast! It's gotten a little better in the last couple weeks. Maybe the increased blood supply has finally managed to keep up with the increased oxygen demand by this time. I also had and still have round ligament pain. It was the worst around 14-16 weeks. I'd barely be able to walk after a long day because it would be sore the whole next day! That has improved, but still gets me regularly. I hope your head aches are decreaseing. I'm getting them on and off and taking Tylenol and Claritan or Flonase occasionally if sinuses are keeping me from sleeping. My perinatologist swears they are very safe during 2nd tri. Still, I only take them when I'm desperate.

Hope eveyone is feeling wonderful kicks and wiggles. I still can't believe this is really real!!

Hi Walsh

you are not overeacting because theres no such thing after what us lot have been through..........we panick at everything! I used to panick if my boobs weren't sore for a day!

But I think it sounds like you will be okay. Many women get spotting for months. My sister had it for ages too with her second baby and like you it was brown which is old blood. thats meant to be okay I have heard. If the doctor says not to worry, then it sounds like all is okay. but you will still worry anyway as thats what we do and we will worry for the whole 9 months...........and long after that too!
My midwife said that the babies heartbeat should be double what ours is. Many peoples heart rate is about 70 and so your babies is still double that. Everyones heart rate, adults or babies differs from minute to minute.

Daly, my headaches are a bit better now I think...........hope I didn't speak too soon. I actually know when my belly is going to get a bit bigger as I feel the stretching over a few days before. it just happened again! Its amazing! When did you feel your first kick? I can't wait!

hope everyone is feeling okay.

Lisa, I felt the first kicks around 18 weeks. I felt it just a few times a day at first and only from inside. Then at 20 weeks I felt it from the outside for the first time. Now at 22 weeks I feel them a ton everyday and feel them from the outside. I see my stomach move just a couple times a day. Ask me again in 2 weeks & I bet my stomach moves a bunch then! I can't wait.

Also, Lisa, I've heard all the stories about after you do IVF & get pregnant many people get pregnant on their own the 2nd time without hardly trying!!!! Maybe that will happen to you!

Walsh, I agree, sounds like nothing. But I completely understand how you worry! I bled at 12 weeks a few times & about lost my mind.

Daly, yes, twins was a major gift. I feel so blessed. My eyes welled up with tears again tonight on the way home from work just thinking about it.

Ok, major purchase today! I went in to "look" at the baby bedding, looked at my first choice, and the salesman said he'd give me 50% all of the bedding, accessories & room decorations. I bought all of it, every accessory you could think of. I love it!!

Hi All
Nice to read all your posts! Feels like I have been out the loop for ages, and it isn't even a week.

Kirsti, and Tracii, I really relate to just feeling so blessed. No matter how hard I try I just can't grasp the reality. Its a conflict between trying to enjoy and relish every minute of pregnancy and then not being able to wait to actually finally getting there and having the baby and being a mom!

Just feel so blessed and overawed really. Especially now I can see my belly and feel her kicking!! I kind of worry about the finances and how we will manage sometimes, but then i think about how this worry was always so insignificant compared to the huge obstacle of just getting pregnant in the first place, and nothing really does worry me. I'd love to have more kids, I kind of always thought I would have 5 kids (highly impractical! In some ways delayed motherhood was probably good for me, forced me to get a career and the rest of it!) Am already tenativley thinking about the reality of being able to afford a second IVF if the frozen ones don't work for the next time around. At same time the 5 or 6 years of getting here whacked everything out of me, and just kind of dread even having to go back to that place, although maybe with one blessed baby around, the pain of going though it all again wont be so bad!

Anyway we are all so lucky! Now have started shopping, the planning of it all actually happening is ALL i think about! I can hardly do a thing at work!

Hope you guys are all well

Lisa- I think I used up all of my energy on those hikes!! Or maybe it was that clean mountain air that pushed me along. Now I am back in 90% humidity and feel sluggish!!

Kristi, Mel and Tracii, I could just cry everytime I think about being pregnant. I truely did not think that I would every be so lucky to have a growing baby inside of me. Aren't we all blessed????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did everyone get the downs symd. blood test? I am getting mine this week. I talked to some of my friends and not all of them chose to take it. Any thoughts?
I hope that all of those pesky headaches alot of you have been experiencing go away. Enjoy the little kicks we have been getting, I sure have.

Mel, you have frozen embies? Gosh, I didn't even think about how many of you/us might have frozen ones for another go after having this baby. Ironically I had 2 great ones that gave me twins...yet 5 others didn't make it well enough to freeze.

Heather, I did the Nuchal test (has to be done by 12 weeks) with the combined blood testing & AFP test. All of it combined gave me the results that they probably don't have downs (the combined testing is 90+% accurate, but not 100%). So I didn't do amnio.

Can I join in...? :D ...

And ask...are any of you on your second? If so, when did you feel movement? I'm sure I felt 'popping' last week for a couple of days, but nothing since. I though last week was early (15 weeks) and am absolutley paranoid about seeing my midwife on Friday as she should hear the hearbeat for the first time... Am 16 weeks tomorrow.

It doesn't get any easier, does it?

Hope everyone is well...
Zoe

P.S I'm paranoid my stomach is getting no bigger - how insane am I? Someone needs to save me here... or give me a good kick up the backside :o

Hi Zoe - welcome to the 2nd tri!! All of your anxieties sound pretty normal to me. I am sure your midwife will reassure you that everything is fine.

Walsh - hang in there sweetie. If the heart is beating and doc says everything looks good - then you are fine. I know it is normal for heart rate to vary. And so many women bleed during their pregnancy. I bled at 6 1/2 weeks and when I told people - about half of them had some story of how they or someone they knew bled off and on throughout their whole pregnancy! It's scary, I know, but seemingly normal.

Mel - you are so lucky you have frozen embies! We had 7 originally but only two made it to day 5 blastocysts. We had both put back and one stuck. We are still thinking this might be our only child, but if we do have another go at it - we will have to start from scratch. And we have to pay for all of it out-of-pocket, like most people. I know what you mean about worrying about finances but then you stop and think about the big picture - and the money thing just doesn't really matter, does it?

Kristi - way to go on the shopping girl! 50% off - what a deal! I need to find some bargains like that.

I had my 16 week check-up today. Heart rate was 161 (could it be a girl?) I have gained 21 pounds totak since before I started IVF, 13 of those pounds since I got my BFP. Doc seemed to think I am right on track so I am not worrying about it.

My official scan to determine sex is scheduled for August 14. My gut feeling is girl, if someone wants to update the list.

Have a great day everyone! :D
