Hi Debs .
Here we are again with our things in common. I am wondering what our next step is after number 6 fail. I have hydro also, which dr said had come bak very bad on last ec. He said if this ttempt didn't work he would look into operating on my tubes however as I had tubal surgery about 6 years ago he is not keen to operate again. I hadn't heard of sealing up the tubes or having them taken out, I didn't realise that they can leak into your uterus?? ( I read that somewhere I think you were discussing it with someone). So really I have the same question as you but feel you know more about it than me. What did your dr say to you ? Would we still get a period and produce eggs or have to use somebody elses eggs ?

Hey Leanne,
well i had my consult with my DR and he really doesnt want to touch my tubes i was so pleased about that as i have read up a lot on this and touching the tubes can do more harm than good... now what i have seen is women who had the hydro drained at EC and went on to have sucessful pregnancys so i told my DR if there is (and im praying there wont be) a hydro i want it drained i do not want my embies put back with that in place this will be my last go and i want to give it every chance, have you talked to your dr yet?
as for using donner eggs or sperm my dr said there is no need he said we responeded really well and there is no explanation as to why it didnt work so now i have to get on a PMA trip and go forward....

Thanks Deb.

I haven't had my consultation yet. I am going to call them tomorrow and arrange a date. Thanks for the info. I'm surprised he didn't drain them last time for me if that was an option??? All very strange. At least I know which area to push my questioning.
hope you are well and happy , no doubt mail soon xx

Hi girls

I also have hydrosalpinx and got it drained at EC on my first cycle-bfn.
Then on my second cycle there was no fluid but my left tube was slightly swollen. - bfn. However at my follow up appointment they scanned me and said the hydro had returned and this tube is now due to be removed on Aug 16th before i do my third cycle. The Docs don't like to continually dran fluid and feel its better to remove the problem. The Doc said the fluid is toxic to any embies that go back in and although it may not leak out they can never guarantee this. Obviously i was upset about the op but given my tubes are totally blocked and damaged i have nothing to lose and feel they are better out. Also did you know that people with tubal damage are high risk for eptopic pregnancy  . Seems strange since they are blocked so you would think nothing can get in them right? Wrong  . So i reckon its best to get my tubes out and pray ivf will work, thats our only hope but at least i will have a much smaller chance of an eptopic WHEN i get my bfp  .

Hope i was a help to you. Good luck

Hey Jen,
thanks for the reply, i talked this over with my DR a lot he said the only problem with removing or cutting the tubes is usually along with tube damage is scar tissue and this makes our anatomy very different than it should be so we have a very high chance of getting post tubal syndrome i know i keep worrying that i should have had it done to increase my chances ....

Hey ladies - sorry to butt in here. Just want to give you all some hope with my story... I had hydros and had both tubes unblocked and drained thru surgery in 2004. Follow up test in Oct 2005 showed one tube still open, other tube blocked - but no hydro. During my stim phase this past March - I developed a hydro in my blocked tube. This is a common side effect of the stimm meds in women with blocked tubes. It was big enough to be seen on the u/s. Now I went crazy reading things on the internet and I was convinced this whole IVF thing wasn't going to work. My doctor acted like I was crazy for being worried and it was no big deal. They drained my hydro during the egg retrieval but said it usually fills back up most of the time. I went on to get a BFP and am still going strong. Just wanted to let you know that IVF can still work with hydros - hang in there ladies!!

And to add - I know all doctors have different opinions - mine did not think removing the tubes was a good option because that can cause more harm. It does something to disturb the communication between the uterus and ovary - or something like that. Plus he also mentioned the scar tissue problem. He said he would rather clamp them off at one end to keep fluid from spilling back into uterus instead. Like I said - just one doc's opinion.

GOOD LUCK to all!!!! :)

:? Hi Lisa,

Thanks for replying but i'm more confused that ever now.
I'm due to get my left tube removed due to hydro in Aug and as they are both damaged i was going to let the Doc take them both out but now i'm worried about the side effects.
Do you think it's best they are left in? My Doc thinks it's best they are removed as there is a better chance of a bfp so there is no toxic fluid around?
Going to call the Doc tomorrow and have a chat, will let you know what she says.

Love Jen x

Oh blimey. I haven't been on for a few days. First thank you all for the replies and the totally invaluable advice.

I am totally happy to have my tubes removed they are bad and can cause me pain. I have had 6 failed ivf and can't think of any other reason why. I have my follow up in 2 weeks and I will pester my doc for info. I think at the end of the day is going to have to be an individual choice what suits our personal situation. ILike I said I have no hesitation getting the bloody things out !!! ( Might change my mind after chat with doc lol).

My other question is ... How do I request to come back as a man with super sperm in my next life !!! lol.

Hey girls - sorry to confuse you or give you doubts, Jen. I am only sharing what my doc shared with me. I was on my very first IVF cycle. I think it is possible that if I had several failed cycles, they may have considered that the toxic fluid was causing the problem and then removed my tubes. I was actually going to insist on having them removed if this cycle failed until I talked to my dr. about it. I know that your doctor is not the first I have heard of who prefers to remove the tubes. I don't know if clamping them off causes scar tissue too. I do know that there are ups and downs to both ways - just like with everything else through this whole infertility mess! If I were you, I would go along with your doc and trust what he says. I am just an accountant, after all...lol! Good luck with everything!

Auntypebbles - you are more than welcome and good luck to you sweetie! :D

Leanne - if you figure out the man/ super sperm thing, let me know, k?

Also Jen - one more thing to add for you. Not all hydros are created equally. Meaning - the tubes are blocked in different places and some do not drain back into the uterus - at least that is what I have heard from girls on this site. Maybe, in your case, yours are draining back into your uterus and your doctor feels strongly that removing your tubes is YOUR best option for success. My doctor gave me his opinion based on MY specific case. And he knows my tubes b/c he operated on them 2 yrs ago. I have read on here where women have had their tubes removed, and gone on to successful IVF! In fact most people seem to believe that removing hydros is the best way to go.

Last thing I want to do is discourage you. Trust your doctor, not me, okay?

 Hi girls

I called the Doc this morning. She informed me that on the day of the op i will talk to the consultant and she will advise me of my options. This all sounds great but i was told that i would be having my tube out and can decide if i want both removed, that was it. Now since talking to you guys i have learnt i can have them clamped to stop the fluid getting into my uterus  . The Docs never told me this and now i feel p***ed off with them.
Anyway to cut a long story short i can either get my tubes removed or clamped. Asked the Doc what would be the best solution and she said it depends what they find when they start the op!!! How can i make a decision then when i've been put under anisthetic???? Don't know what to decide as i didn't know there would be side effects from the op. I don't want to get the tubes clamped then to be told in a year or so that i need the op aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh. The hosp make it sound like, "tubes out and then crack on with ivf", all fine.

Feel so fed up now and don't know what to do? :? ? Just want this to be over with and get on with the ivf. It's taking so long, i hate my body

Sorry for the rant, am just miserable as Aug 16th is soooo far away then i have to wait another three months before my next cycle, that would be ok if i was 21

Thanks for your help girls

Hi Jen,
we are in exactly the same position except my dr doesnt want to remvoe my tubes.... and im thinking ok so if my final IVF fails would it have worked had i had the tubes out ... i do think you have to try to trust your DR is doing what is best for you like lisa says he/she knows your tubes better than we do

my dr did say if he was sure there was a clear path to my tubes he would have said clamp them i think i would really try to push the clamping of your tubes then if at your op they see the need to take them out then you know you did the only thing you could and are giving your embies the best chance... what you have to think is what if when the are inside and can clearly see your tubes and the damage that if left in place they could cause infection that would harm your little ones then they are better off taken out.... do ask your dr specifcaly about post tubel syndrom make sure they can say for sure this wont happen...i think this is only caused when they cant clearly see your tube and accidently cut off the blood supply to your ovarys ... so say if you see a chance of this dont cut them clamp them....

im sorry we have driven you nuts i hope everything goes really well for you

Oh you poor old things. I haven't reached the "informed" stage yet as I haven't spoke to my consultant. Like I said before , After ec he told me that the hydro was back really bad and if this time didn't work ( as you know it didn't) ten he would consider operating on them He did say he was reluctant as they had been operated on before. I had surgery to remove scar and tissue damage and open up tubes. This was said to be sucessful at the time but has not proved so. My attitude at the moment is that if they are no good to me then I have no problem getting them out. I really don't know about the syndrome you mentioned, is it a hormanal feeling rather than just feeling like you had given part of your womanhood away???

I would say to your doctors, Look,, this is the most important thing in our lives and we are putting our trust in you to help us. If you were me what would you honestly do. It is not about money or the amount of attempts you have its about the emotions you go through everytime and we could all do with out the extra worry of should I???? Use their professional knowledge.
