Just Starting IVF Process

Post by StyxGrl315 »

Hi Everyone!

My husband and I are just starting out this process. We had our first consultation with the IVF specialist and are now getting ready to go through the rest of the required testing.

I recently had an HSG done... anyone who has yet to go through this testing let me warn you...it is NOT fun. Worst pain ever! It showed that both of my fallopian tubes are blocked, which is why we have opted for IVF.

I'm still very unsure of the process, it seems like it will take between 4 and 6 months with all of the testing (I've done some of it already) before the actual procedures? But I can't be sure -its all so overwhelming (as I'm sure all of you know) I guess I'm just looking for advice and tips... No one I know is going through this, and my hubby and I are nervous. I'm relatively healthy... giving up my coffee addition, don't drink or smoke, weight is normal. I take pre-natal vitamns. Is there something more I should do? Are there special foods they advice to eat? How much excercise is too much?

Sorry for so many questions - I gues I'm still in shock about the entire thing, acceptance that this is the only way I will be able to have a baby is proving difficult for me and Tony (hubby).

I'm glad there are others on here going through what we are - only because that means I'm not so "abnormal" lol and I'm not alone.

Any advice, tips, words-of-wisdom, anything you all have to pass on will be much appreciated.

Hi Bobbi,

Everyone is different. Different reasons for IVF, different tests etc. I'm new to it too. We had our first consultation at the IVF clinic the second week of May. Today I went to have a beta test as my HPT is positive! Miricles do happen. I'm an insulin dependant diabetic so for me the main process beforehand was getting my sugar levels normal, oh and I started taking folic acid.

All I can say is good luck, this is a long rollercoaster of emotions but you have come to a great site. The people on here are fantastic and full of great information and tips on how to get through each step!

Best of luck to you

Jo
